Instead of calling for Bush's impeachment
Why not a demand that he resign?

And demanding the resignations of Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice?

Impeachment requires all sorts of legal proceedings and formalities in the House. A demand for resignation requirtes nothing.

It would make for a great bumper sticker as well: Bush Must Resign

I'll bet a petition calling for his resignation would get millions of signatures.

1. They'll never go willingly or quietly ...
that's why they want to change the Constitution to eliminate term limits. They want to remain in power forever.

5. I haven't heard anything about changing the rules on term limits...
Do you have a source on that?

On edit: Apparently, it wouldn't include Bush, though I don't see how they can change the rules and then say certain people wouldn't be eligible. That doesn't make sense. There would either be term limits or there wouldn't be. How can they say, "No term limits, except for Bush"

3. well that's a great idea but...
I'd really rather demand that he and all the rest of his loser clan be permanently exiled to Iraq, where the Iraqis could do with them as they willed.

6. Presidents, once in office, are not bound by popular demand
and the only way to remove one is to impeach him. Nixon resigned only because his own party realized he was unsalvageable and would have voted for his impeachment and subsquent removal. Nixon, for all his deep flaws, paranoia and dishonesty, deeply cared about this country. He resigned rather than put the counry through an impeachment and trial.
That Ford was going to pardon him as part of the deal just sweetened the pot.

As much as I grudgingly admire Nixon for saving the country all the rigmarole of an impeachment, I also admire Clinton for staring the House Manglers down and refusing to resign over an impeachment for essentially nothing.

It doesn't matter to Fuckwit how many of us want him to resign. Little people like us simply don't matter to him and never have. The only thing such a petition would show is popular support for such a move by Congress. Those old boys would like to be reelected, so it might have an effect there.

7. Dubya is unlikely to leave office by either method, ...
but moving toward impeachment is a much-more aggressive stance. Look at what it took out of the Clinton presidency. And then again, in 1972, it didn't look like Nixon would be leaving office early. But Nixon did resign -- under threat of impeachment.

9. I just want to win in '06 & '08.
DSM is not about impeachment for me- it's about destroying GOP political, moral & "strong on defense" capital.

Impeachment? I'll be happy enough just to permanently wipe that smirk off Dumbya's gin-blossomed face.

11. Hastert? Is he any better? What happened to the feelers that were put
out about the right wing changing the pecking order through a change in the Constitution so that Cabinet members would take over?

14. Gawd! At least we're safe from that.
It's comforting to know that there will be no Constitutional Amendments passed in this Congress. Takes 2/3 majority in both houses. A snowball stands a better chance in Hell. Then, 2/3 majority in the state houses. That takes time.

I feel safe about this. There just isn't enough time for the Repugs to do any damage before 2006. Tank doodness.

We need to construct a hanging venue for Chimpy, Dick and Rummy. They have committed treason...and you know what you do to treasonous scoundrals....you hang them.

Let's get three gallows poles set up on an American-flag draped tractor trailer truck and drive it to DC. Demand that they be hanged for treason. There would be a short trial and then the ceremony can begin...let's do what the American Patriots would do if they were alive now.

One can dream.

16. I was wondering about this...
There's a possibility he might just do what Nixon did and resign in disgrace to avoid impeachment.
