Cheney: $350 billion deficit means economy is "in good shape"

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050613/us_nm/bush_budget_dc_1

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The federal budget deficit this year will be smaller than the $427 billion initially forecast by the White House because of stronger-than-expected economic growth, Vice President
Dick Cheney said on Monday.

Cheney offered no dollar figures, but private-sector budget experts said they expected the White House to revise this year's deficit projection to around $350 billion from the $427 billion forecast by the White House in February.

"I would expect that by the time we do our mid-session (budget) review, that we'll see the deficit is smaller than was originally forecast because of increased economic activity," Cheney said in a question-and-answer session at a journalism awards ceremony.

The White House plans to release its budget update by mid-July. Cheney said the economy was "in good shape," calling the nation's growth "remarkable" and inflation low.

12. No, it's possible to translate it

I'm not the quickest learner, but I realized about two years ago that in Bush Administrationese, "Dee Eehkohnahmee" means "our rich CEO buddies" in American English. (For reasons I don't understand the media spells the words as 'the economy'.)

Unemployment's up = "the economy is doing fine."
Deficits = "the economy has been doing better."
Middle Class Squeeze = "the economy is looking up."

When it comes time to pay the $8 trillion debt off the economy is going to dive off a cliff...

3. Is it just me, or is he looking pretty terrible these days?
Cheney can distort the truth as much as he wants. We all know the score, however, and it seems that reality is finally catching up with the bastard, in so many ways.

9. The trade deficit is actually much worse.
If U-turn products and tricks with trades in services were accounted for, it would probably approach 800 billion.

17. That's the same business acumen...
...that lead him to purchase Dresser Industries while CEO of Haliburton without checking to see if it had huge outstanding liabilities for asbestos (which it did).

He appears to be as saavy as Mr. Bush in that regard.

18. And what's the national debt now? 8 trillion? 7 trillion?
I'm shocked that a former head of a corporation would countenance any kind of budget deficits. Especially when he's now the Vice President of the United States.

It's doesn't fucking matter if it's $427 billion in the hole or $350 billion. The fact is that we are adding to the national debt at an alarming rate. We CAN'T sustain this kind of debt forever. Sooner or later things are going to collapse. There's going to be a huge financial collapse that's going to make 1929 seem like a picnic in the park.

Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 07:09 AM by OneTwentyoNine
Latest trick in the Rove/Cheney play book that they've used at least once maybe more.

Quietly release the projected deficit, which is actually higher number than economist figure and when the noise/bitching settles down wait a few months then LOUDLY proclaim to the whore media that the deficit will be MUCH LESS because of the genius economic plans of this administration.

Jesus, crooked Enron book-cookers are in awe of this slight of hand bullshit.

..that's a good thing. Fish fly, ducks moo...yada yada. The neo-nazis live on their own planet and it obviously isn't the same one the rest of us live on. The propaganda is so rediculous, it's becoming macabre.

Look, Tricky Dick II, go f*ck yourself - and have a heart attack while you're at it you fat, pasty-white, age-spotted piece of murderous, snarling, trash.

Pollyanna doesn't live here.
