Hmmm...Coincidence? On "DSM Day," CNN reports "Al Qaeda leader captured"
I can hear Bush now: "We're makin' PROGRESS!"

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/06/16/iraq.main/index.html

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The U.S. military on Thursday reported the capture of a man described as al Qaeda's leader in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Air Force Brig. Gen. Donald Alston identified him as Abu Talha -- whose actual name is Muhammad Khalaf Shakar -- and said he was captured on Tuesday.

"Talha has been one of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's most trusted operations agents in Iraq," Alston said. "This is a major defeat for the al Qaeda organization in Iraq."

"Numerous reports indicated he wore a suicide vest 24 hours a day and stated that he would never surrender. Instead, Talha gave up without a fight," Alston said. Talha surrendered to multinational forces in a quiet neighborhood in Mosul, Alston said, after information from Iraqi civilians contributed to his capture.

8. There must be a whole lot of AQ leaders
they keep pulling them out like a magician pulls rabbits out of a hat... and usually when they need a distraction.

Just something to ponder... if you really wanted to protect someone very very important and yet let someone else think they had caught the person how difficult would it be to get volunteer stand ins?

10. Yeah...who's going to ask for two pieces of I.D...
...unless he tries to cash an out-of-state check or something? Then I'd INSIST on it.

That's the magic of Bush-Cheney II...they can tell us ANYTHING (like how the insurgency is in its final "death throes"), and if we challenge it, it becomes "yes we did, no we didn't, that's already been discredited." Like the "ignore the DSM and it will go away" ethic we saw with Bush and his little buddy Tony at their press conference.

I HIGHLY recommend yesterday's Scott McClellan meltdown to anyone reading this thread. It seems that it is getting harder and harder for him to lie and put on his happy face:
