What happens AFTER these hearings?
Im sure I am sounding ignorant or like a jerk here :) but just wondering, after todays hearing, what next? What does accomplish in the grand scheme of things? Does this start an official investigation, call for impeachment? How does this work?

1. Nothing
With the Republicans controlling the congress very little will happen. This is more of a publicity stunt. In fact it isn't even an offical hearing. We need to take back congress, grow some balls, and start impeachment proceedings.

19. There are 540,000 signature on a petition
There are more memos and evidence where this DSM came from. I think that makes this more than a publicity stunt.

This IS a show of balls by the Dems involved.

20. However, once the show is over they will close their
collective trenchcoats and realize that only those in their own family saw.

To those that were wondering, great.

To the rest, eh. Some knew they had them, and some don't care.

2. should be impeachment, but..
.. I wouldn't count on it.

I -would- count on a lot of spin, diversions, and excuses.. maybe even another terrorist attack or huge tragedy somewhere..

.. or else just another successions of TV days spent watching inane reality or survivor shows.

15. The only way
we're going to have an impeachment hearing is if more republicans come over like Mr. Freedom fries and Mr. Duncan from Tennessee can get more people on their side etc. It'll be a slow process but I wouldn't give up.

3. maybe it's up to the public after this
to force more and more exposure. This isn't the only thing the bushies have done illegally -- and it's the aggregate that will finally bring these criminals down.

5. Hopefully, the crescendo effect.
The quiet murmurs against the administration in the Corporate Media have been growing louder thanks to a groundswell of criticism from the blogs and Bush's tanking poll numbers.

This is part of the PROTEST MOVEMENT -- and thankfully we do now have an active and vibrant protest movement in this country. It's been lying fallow for 30+ years, but I can see it and feel it and hear it now. The music is coming back.

12. No faith lost here
in fact, i think there is something else that is going to come out to verify everything and clear up any doubts, im just wondering, technically, what the next step is basically having Bush held accountable, and impeached, or SOMETHING!

14. Exactly...
We have to keep pressing this issue. From some of the comments I've read, people are already falling on their swords - and the DSM Forum isn't even over yet! WE have to keep this issue alive and make it a wedge issue come the '06 elections.

16. But DEMs could bring it up on interview & debate show appearances.
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 02:27 PM by Dr Fate
And if they refuse to bring up the issue, I'll blame them, not Wolf Blitzer (R).

13. Dean, Kerry, Hillary, Reid etc need to go on TV and make accusations.
If they fail to do this, I'll blame them, not the GOP owned media for letting the story go away.

What we need to do with "the memo" is hammer it home daily- force the GOP to explain why it is not impeachable, expose them as liars & hypocrites, and destroy their political & moral capital.

I hope the DEM leadership does not think this hearing is all they need to point to to say "See- we fought Bush- now about that donation..."

Top Dems need to be on TV for the next few weeks hammer it home. If they refuse to do this, I'll blame them, not Rove & his media.
