4. quotes to the effect of
White House calls senator's remarks about Guantanamo Bay reprehensible...
Durbin Calls Gitmo death camp...
Refuses to apologize...

etc.

drudgereport.com

Those freepers jump at the chance to paint a Democrat as "unAmerican".

12. I checked out this site - egads, is it biased so I sent this to the editor

"We believe that the ultimate function of the editorial pages is the same as the rest of the newspaper, to inform. But in opinion journalism we have the additional purpose of making an argument for a point of view. We often take sides on the major issues of politics and society, with a goal of moving policies or events in what we think is the best direction for the country and world. We recognize that others may disagree but see little value in equivocation. In stating our own views forcefully, we hope to raise and sharpen the level of debate and knowledge. And we hope that our editorials reflect not merely the passing whim of passing editors, but a body of thought shaped by a century of tradition." (This is from their Who We Are link)

Whew! Thanks for the clarification because for a minute there I was afraid I'd happened upon some kind of right wing propaganda publication. Say, you wouldn't happen to have any investor tips for when Bush and company hands my social security check over to you good folks on Wall Street, would you? Or should I just look into war bonds?

On edit: added the war bond bit

2. yeah
I was in freeperland and the original text was not posted once in the whole thread (over 100 replies) that I saw. It was a paraphrase at best and it deeply twisted Durbin's meaning.

What he said was true and was not a slight against our armed forces. It was a bash against this administrations policies. Please read the full quote if you disagree...

3. Stop with the taken out of context BS
There's no need for it. He can say that the kind of behavior we've seen is similar to the type of treatment the went on in regimes that we abhor and we can make excuses for it or we can take steps to make sure that it never happens again.
This "taken out of context" stuff just looks like back-pedalling and weakness.

6. No, Don't misunderstand my intent
It is just that the words he was quoted as using said why we should abhor the conditions but he also said it was the administrations duty to correct it. The headline just makes him look like a bigot and many people on here were buying that, He was not being that way!!

8. Who cares?!?!!!
Dick Durbin is one of the best Senators out there. Period. I'm not even going to get into this who finger pointing episode. The gist of what he said was right on. End of story.

Don't dignify this crap.

9. Durbin poll
Please feel free to visit www.newsgazette.com and vote on the following poll question:

"Should Senator Dick Durbin apologize for comparing U.S. troops guarding prisoners to Nazis, Stalinists, or Pol Pot?"

As usual, this rag takes things out of context in order to stir up the locals. Dick Durbin is an excellent senator and we need to support him.

Thanks!

10. As someone else stated...
we can't blame all the soldiers, but we can blame all the leadership.

11. Everything repubs reply to is "taken out of context".
They can't argue the facts, so they have to twist it around a bit,
in order to take a stand against it. Makes them feel like adults.
