Reply to my letter (email) to Texas Senator John Cornyn.
More of a reply than I anticipated but still pretty "boiler plate". I'm going to reply, and reply, and reply

Dear Splat:

Thank you for contacting me about the validity of pre-war intelligence on Iraq. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.

The UN Security Council unanimously passed Resolution 1441 in November 2002, declaring Iraq in material breach for failing to account for weapons of mass destruction and related components that it had previously admitted to building and stockpiling. Though coalition forces did not find the anticipated stockpiles, every major intelligence service in the world, as well as both Democrat and Republican administrations in the United States, believed that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. As a result of this intelligence failure, we are in the process of reorganizing our intelligence community so that our nation's policymakers receive the best available intelligence.

The decision to undertake the war in Iraq was based not on a single intelligence report, but on years of evidence detailing how Saddam Hussein repeatedly and flagrantly violated United Nations resolutions. The decision was made with the noble goals of ending decades of brutal and violent oppression and ensuring America's security in the post-September 11 world by removing regimes that threaten other nations with the use of weapons of mass destruction. The world is a safer place today because Saddam Hussein was removed from power.

While our global efforts against tyranny and terror are costly, it would be far more costly to do nothing, to give up, or to fail. As we continue to work with our allies, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to a democratic Iraq so that its citizens can look forward to a brighter future—one of self-rule and stability.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate, and I assure you that I will continue to closely monitor the situation. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator

My reply read the same as yours, but it started with Dear acmejack. Talk about staying on message. But it is all good, he rarely deigns to respond at all.
