Clark on Fox news "I'm not going to condemn him (Durbin) Sean"
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 08:39 PM by Clarkie1
Do we really need to debate the benefit of Clark being on Fox news anymore?

29. Since their ratings have been in freefall, they are probably
trying to add some "balance"--purely to stem the ratings bleeding.

10. Yeah, I noticed that too.
I think Clark's response to Durbin's comments about treatment at Gitmo being something that sounds like Nazi Germany caught Hannity totally unprepared.

did he defend him by saying he was right and did not say anything outrageous?

14. He turned the discussion to a question of policy, basically.
And the policy is making the rest of the world see us as treating prisoners in a Nazi-like or gulag fashion. Said we need to bring the whole world in to see what is going on at Gitmo to regain credibility. Not his exact words but that's the gist of it.

I'm sure there will be a transcript and video up soon.

It was a perfect response, in my opinion. I think a lot of other democrats would have taken the bait and attacked Durbin. Just my opinion, of course...I'm going by how some dems responed to Dean's comments recently in contrast to how Clark defended Dean.

When Clark says something, he means it.

When Clark said, "Democrats need to defend other Democrats," he meant it.

16. good answer
I was not expecting him to attack Durbin, but the way he said it, he basically justify what Durbin said, which is great.

11. Boy he was such a sell-out!
Says he's not going to condemn Durbin. Actually defends him and says we need to focus on the chimp's policies instead of Durbin.

Why, he sold out so much he said we have to internationalize this and, like the big sell out he is, that we need to stop doing things that feed negative perceptions on the world stage.

Jeez, we sure don't need people who say things like that in the Democratic Party. :sarcasm:

a credible southerner, lifelong military man (unlike the chickenhawks on fox), who can hold his own to get OUR message across.

13. I like how he didn't play into Hannity's game.
I was trying to watch from the point of view of a neutral or misguided or simpleheaded Fox viewer. "He said 'Nazi!'" "They said it first!"

The General basically said, we need to rise above this and deal with the POLICY issues. Open up Guantanamo to inspection, let people see how these detainees are treated (something BushCo has refused, so Hannity couldn't touch it).

I think many people probably nodded and said, "Yeah, that's right!" I really do. Damn good start, as far as I'm concerned! :D

21. Let me see if I can recap
It was short. (I may have the sequence wrong here.)

Hannity started by saying (Durbin I think) doesn't understand Geneva conventions, slamming Durbin for calling GOP "Nazis" and asked the General if he'd like to condemn that.

General said no, he wouldn't condemn that, and there are policy issues here that need to be addressed. We need to get other countries to buy into what we're doing.

Hannity gave a little speech (really, it was much more a speech than a question) insisting that Geneva doesn't apply because these aren't POWs, and our soldiers aren't Nazis.

General said he'd fight anybody who called our soldiers Nazis, as he knows how they were trained, etc. But we have a problem higher up with policy. If there are detainees who are innocent they should be let go; ir not, they should be charged and tried; and it should be opened up for other countries to come in and see what's going on, how they're being treated.

Colmes then showed video of Santorum comparing Democrats to Hitler, and asked why there was no outcry then.

Clark said we need to rise above namecalling altogether, and mentioned a "saying" that in politics, whoever uses the "Nazi" word first loses.

Then Hannity summed up with basically a childish "Did TOO." "They aren't POWs so Geneva doesn't imply and Durbin should apologize for saying Nazi." Or something like that.

That's my best recollection.

I've been really impressed with Durbin and the way he's speaking out. From what I understand, he didn't call our troops "Nazis", he read a description of some of what's been going on in the treatment of our detainees, and said that if somebody heard that description without knowing what it was referring to, they might think it was referring to Nazis, or various other evil regimes. Repukes are just too idiotic to get any sort of complexity, or they're just deliberatley dense.

I'm proud of our General for standing up for Dems once again. Gooo General! :patriot:

18. Clark refused to be roped into Hannity's simpleton game
and said that we need to stop talking about name calling and stop name calling and start talking about the policy that has gotten us hated in the world.

He said that the acts are what have caused problems for us in the world. He said we need to bring the international community into Gitmo to see what we are doing there. He said we need to talk about this.

At one point, Sean said, "I, I, I, I think..." Duh, Sean, you really don't think. He ended up saying that we are GREAT!!! to our prisoners, and that it is a sad day when a Senator says this type of thing.

What a d-bag.

27. I don't doubt that Hannity thinks we're great to our prisoners.
I bet he'd pay big bucks to go someplace where people would shove things up his ass. Hell, he probably does, and we just haven't found out about it yet. He probably just thinks that everyone loves that sort of thing as much as he does.:puke:

So true:
"Fox is paying Gen. Clark 2008 for pissing in hannitylies's whipped peas. I enjoy that thought. I enjoy it greatly."

Best of all, truth went out over the MSM airwaves tonight and millions of people heard it loud and clear. Maybe they'll remember what it sounds like now.
