carried the story from Knight-Ridder. I was hoping for page 1 -but it is the most prominant page 2 article - way to go, Times. btw - good photo of Conyers handing over letter and petition. http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/D/DOWNING_STREET_MEMO?SITE=FLPET&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2005-06-17-03-35-06

1. Oh, so that's the spin! |
|
White House spokesman Scott McClellan says Conyers "is simply trying to rehash old debates."
Rehash old debates. Yeah, got it. We've already completed the full investigation. The rest of us just forgot. So sorry. We'll leave you alone now. Thanks for setting the record straight.

2. this story is slow - but it won't go away |
|
I think a lot of us are just waiting for some big "aha" moment when the country will wake up. This won't ever happen. If it was an overnight sensation, it would die the same flash-in-the-pan death. This slow building of evidence is better.
If it was no threat - Bush and Cheney wouldn't be planning the big dog-and-pony show to hype the war.
One good thing about the insistence on left/right punditspeak on the news shows, is that we now have an opportunity to mention the lie to get us into war while discussing the President's latest stump speech. The questions is - will our talking heads take advantage of that, or will they take the bait and simply try to dissect the speech? My fingers are crossed!

3. I don't think it is going away either. |

I think their disconnect with reality which served as an advantage originally is going to ultimately be their demise. I really do believe we're seeing the formation of a snowball that will one day be remembered as an avalanche.
