NEXT STEP: Contact Senators to sign Kerry's DSM letter of inquiry to Bush.
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 10:47 AM by blm
Kerry has been circulating this letter all week in the Senate, but the media doesn't seem anxious to further the story.

Call or email ALL Senators, D or R, and tell them you want the Senate to investigate DSM along with the House.

At the Downing Street Memo site there is an action alert to help Sen. Kerry gather as many signatures as possible.

10. Not that I know of. This is a Senate Letter of Inquiry to Bush
to be signed by Senators.

We are to contact the senators to urge signing. Kerry will be releasing the letter publically when he sends it to the WH.

3. The Media Is not covering anything having to do with this.
We have to cover it ourselves and make the news to keep bringing this up....

19. What are top DEMs saying about on those interview & debate shows?
Of course the reporters are ignoring it- but surely the top Democrats are bringing it up & discussing it on those cable shows despite the cover-up- RIGHT????

really blew it in my opinion.

5. Thanks, blm. Edited sample letter below to copy and send to your Senators.
I understand that Senator John Kerry is presently circulating a letter in the Senate that calls for the President to answer questions raised by the Downing Street Memo.  I urge you to sign on to Kerry's letter.

Congressman John Conyers has been leading the effort in the House to bring this issue into the light; now Senator Kerry is doing the same in the Senate.  Let's support both of them so that the issues surrounding why and how our country went to war receive the fair hearing they deserve.

6. Done almost 2 days ago...
when I first read about Kerry's letter. I still haven't recieved a response from them addressing the DSM but I think I probably will eventually from at least one of these two Dems... Hillary and Schumer... IME of the two Hillary tends to respond a lot more often.

7. Thanks. Too many here at DU still haven't even heard about this action.
We have to keep the pressure on as citizens. Kerry's been working the Senate to join him, but there is some reluctance. I don't know where it's coming from.

9. Yeah, but dozens more show up to cheer the ignorance on.
I don't trust that they really care about the DSM because if they did this letter would be old news by now.

12. Some take the time to post threads bashing Kerry on DSM but won't contact
Senators to support Kerry's work when they find out the facts. Interesting.

see Dems beat the press for a change. So do I.

21. It's a fine line. Some say I do "bash."
I dont care what people call it- I "bash" when I sincerely think DEMs are not doing enough, and I praise & give props when warranted.

I think Kerry needs to go on TV, or at least send out one of his mass e-mails and drum up support if he wants maximum petition signatures.

25. His is a letter of inquiry from the Senate, not a public petition.
And I recognize the benefit of fine lines. Only those unfamiliar with your dedication and sincerity would assume your posts are about bashing.

16. I just called Sen. Kohl
I had called Feingold earlier, but God knows he is very likely to have signed this.

Kohl is a bit more conservative, so he would be the one I would wonder about. So I just called, gave them my information, and told them I'd like him to sign the Kerry's letter on the Downing Street Memo if he hasn't already.

35. I don't think Kohl's too conservative to sign this. Besides, real
conservatives should be lining up to sign this letter. No REAL conservative would even think about committing treacherous acts of imperialism.

Or at least send out a mass e-mail?

A lot of Democrats in my San Francisco office have still never even heard of it.

22. People aren't going to understand when I say this
but to strident an involvement from him could actually damage the cause.

Double edged sword, his status as the Dem candidate of 2004. He gets attention, and he also gets calls of sour grapes. I don't care if he gets called a sore loser. I'm not sure he does either. But if our efforts are fluffed of as sour grapes, does that damage the cause and trivialize it.

I've been kicking around that idea since yesterday. What do you guys think?

30. Maybe he means the public could put more pressure
on their Senators if there was more attention on the letter and Kerry.

Which could easily backfire, I think. I'm waiting to see what happens with the letter.

39. I just can't answer that. I wonder why ANY of them would be reluctant.
The only positive thing I can think of is that they will be using it to hammer Bolton. Reid indicated that would be the case late last week and Kerry was one of the key voices against Bolton. Maybe THAT is when the senate letter will go to Bush, when it gets the attention as a tripping point for Bolton.
