BRAD BLOG: WaPo's Dana Milbank Plays 'Journalist', Gets Paid for It!
WaPo's Dana Milbank Plays 'Journalist', Gets Paid for It!
Condesdending, Factually Incorrect Article on 'Downing Street' Hearings

Conyers Replies with Letter

New York Times' Scott Shane wrote a serious article covering yesterday's Downing Street Hearings and the facts it examined concerning a President of the United States who may have committed Impeachable High Crimes by fixing intelligence and misleading the country into an unnecessary war leading to the death of thousands.

On the other hand, Washington Post's embarrasing Dana Milbank wrote an obnoxious and condescending little screed which begins, "In the Capitol basement yesterday, long-suffering House Democrats took a trip to the land of make-believe."

And, oh yeah, speaking of "make-believe", Milbank gets one fact wrong after another...

And Conyers replies to WaPo in kind...

1. Milbank is supposed to be an objective reporter not an opinion columnist.
What the hell is he doing writing an opinion piece that belongs on Newsmax?

I believe the Post and NYT has every intention of burying this story FOR BushInc. They have lost major credibility to Knight Ridder and I think they are trying to gaslight the Knight Ridder reporters working to stay on this story.

statement ( and I am paraphrasing), it is not necessary or even desirable for the American people to know certain facts.Dana, like the loyal company person that he is,simply knows which side his bread is buttered.Gotta keep one's options open, you know?

28. I sent email to WaPo--write to Milbank/cc ombudsman
What a sad day in America when a supposedly investigative newspaper such as the Washington Post prints a snide slanted piece of mostly fiction about a hearing that is investigating official British cabinet memos that show that the war we are involved in was a trumped-up war. Of course, roses were to be have strewn at our soldiers' feet (as liberators), Halliburton would have no-bid contracts for reconstruction of what the U.S. had bombed to smithereens, and Iraqi oil would be the spoil (for select American corporations). It was all to have been a cakewalk with G.W. Bush having his "Mission Accomplished" faster than a celebrity trial (so we could all forget as the next media circus was performed).

Instead of an American-installed cruel dictator, there would be an American-installed "democratic" government beholding to American corporate interests. Haliburton IS making a killing, but at what price to the American solider, the innocent Iraqi civilian, and the American taxpayer?

The whitewashing of a corrupt Administration is not what the Fourth Estate was intended to do. Now I understand how a Nazi Germany could have happened because the press became the propaganda machine for Hiltler's brownshirts.

Shame on you. At least Katherine Graham didn't live to see this pandering. Is lying to Congress and the American people regarding a war not as significant a story as Clinton/Monica?

emails to milbankd@washpost.com and cc'd to ombudsman@washpost.com

15. Huh? Katherine Graham was running the post when Watergate broke.
If she were still alive and running it today, it would be a far better paper.

If you have a link to that paraphrased quote, I would like to see it. I suspect you may be quoting someone else.

22. Wow!!!!!! That was Incredible that last paragraph was UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!
Here it is.....

"Were I not to have admired your past record, I might even think you are campaigning for a Gold Star from your editors, since your inaccurate, tendentious report dovetails so well with their torturous effort to play down the implications of the Downing Street Minutes. Those minutes are, indeed, a smoking gun. You'll see."

Yep there are no more shots being fired across bows, peeps be aiming for the heart now.

7. I am Mystified!
For the life of me, I can't understand how thinking, patriotic citizens can possibly object to the meaning of the Downing Street Minutes. Do they really want to live in a country where the government is not of the people, for the people, and by the people????? This is so sad.

9. Conyer's response is excellent!!!
I used to believe these so-called "journalists" were simply a part of a sort of mass denial or something.

However, the facts are right there, in their faces, and they STILL spin away from the truth? No. That's not some form of denial. They are doing it on purpose.

There have been quite a few posts about Op Mockingbird. I have taken a position of an observer reviewing what I considered events of the past. But, there is increasing evidence that intentional propaganda is being orchestrated by SOMEONE for purposes of influencing public opinion away from truth or reality.

At any rate, corporate media has completely lost any credibility with me no matter what the underlying reason(s) for their complete failure to do their job to report on matters that have a serious impact on the lives of the American people.

12. This should be required reading for evevryone- Conyers should replace Bush
and if the momentum continues after only a 5-6 week old british memo-leak that has turned around and finally begun to get some attention in the US. articles of impeachment against Bush could very well be a reality.

Limbaugh-Hannity are avoiding DSM like the plague while both complain there is no new political news to talk about? - which is another good sign their in deep shit!

25. Plain and simple: Conyers is a much better writer
when it somes to writing, John Conyers can run circles around Mr. Skull and Bones.

Conyer's letter is strong and well written.

I lost confidence in Dana Milbank years ago.
