DNC GROWS GRASSROOTS WHILE BUSH ENTERTAINS HIGH ROLLERS
First Time DNC Donors Talk About the Importance of the Party
Washington, DC - On the same day that President Bush invited thousands of elite big-money donors and well-heeled corporate lobbyists over for dinner at the Washington Covention Center to help him raise millions for the re-election accounts of Republican members of Congress, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) sent an email to thousands of people across the country who contributed to the DNC on our website. We asked them to write about why they gave and the importance of the Democratic Party to them. Here's what some of them had to say:
"Last night, at the monthly meeting of the Democratic Party here in Riley County, Kansas, we met a new field coordinator who will be spending time here organizing our grassroots work, all made possible by Gov. Dean's understanding that Kansas COULD be turned around with the right amount of work, money and leadership." - Steve, Manhattan, KS
"Bluntly, I gave because Howard Dean asked us to. He is bringing guts and integrity back to the Democratic voice and I support him all the way on that. I want to see a strong, unapologetic Democratic Party that isn't afraid to stand up for what it believes and to call the Republicans out publicly for their abuses and excesses -- I believe Dean is providing the leadership to make that happen." - Barry, Saint Louis, MO
"I gave because I believe this country is in dire straits and needs a lot of help before we go clear down the tubes. We the middle and lower class need someone who cares about everyone. I believe that is the Democratic Party." - Carol, Cambridge, OH
"The Republican agenda is out of control. Everything from the war in Iraq to the environment, to the economy needs to be addressed. And Social Security -- what a disaster their plan is. The DNC needs to let the American people know what's going on. And that takes money. That's why I gave." - Carol, Fancy Gap, VA
"All Democrats should support Howard Dean and his courage to speak up at his own political peril. I believe in his honesty." - Ruth, Conyers, GA
"I just turned 70, so it's not about me but my future grandchildren * Tell it like it is, Gov. Dean! You've got my support." - Jim, Poland, OH
