See or watch again: The Killing Fields |
|
This movie seems to show what Iraq is probably like now. It's a film about the rise of the Khmer Rouge, but the similarities of the war seem very parallel.
Madness.
Rent it.

1. There's a tragic irony about that film. |
|
Haing S. Ngor, who, in reality, had escaped Pol Pot's regime, was cast in the film to give it more authenticity.
After surviving Pol Pot's tyranny, he moved to America and made a few movies, but was killed in a robbery attempt outside his home in 1996.

That is a sad story. To survive Pol Pot and finally meet the fate of a silly crime event years later...
What is amazing about the film is how journalists are pretty much considered enemies...now it's all switched to how our OWN journalists are considered either enemies of America or are willingly "embedded" to play the role of an Orwellian puppet.

2. I knew some Cambodians |

who escaped. There were 10 of them - men, women and children who traveled 10 days and nights with their traveling done at night with only a coffee can sized container of rice for all of them to eat. And this country recognized Pol Pot as the leader of the country long after it was common knowledge what he was doing.

Thinking is bad. If you silently follow like a sheep or a lemming, you are rewarded... with ignorance. That is the Supreme Goal.

I should put it now. Although, I doubt I'd stay awake for the whole thing.
Been a loooong day.

I've only been able to see it on VHS. Hopefully, it's on DVD soon.
As John Perry Barlow says, he's probably been swimming to Cambodia.
