WESLEY CLARK IS A MISERABLE FAILURE
He failed to keep his gig at CNN because he wouldn't toe the GOP/CNN party line and continued to be antiwar even in the run up to it.

He failed miserably at lying, as evidenced in his early campaign appearances when he had yet to learn *real* media savvy and and answered damning questions honestly. Like how he had voted in the past (a question NO ONE **must** answer).

He failed miserably in keeping the 50-plus year old head of NATO (one Gen. WKC) safe by rappelling down a mountain to try to save some French troops in an overturned and burning vehicle.

He failed miserably at 'starting WWIII' with the Russians.

He failed miserably in siding with the majority of the Dem personages when he not only refused to bash Howard Dean, but chose instead to defend him.

He failed miserably by graduating first in class at West Point and then having the audacity to prove himself an intellectual by going to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.

He failed miserably as a nuanced candidate by standing on a stage with Mike Moore, after his infamous 'deserter' comments, after every other candidate was running away from Mike, and defended Mike's right to say that.

He failed miserably as a stalking horse for Hillary Clinton by supporting John Kerry and now Howard Dean.

He failed miserably as a Democratic personage by not adopting their usual stance of bashing each other.

He failed miserably by refusing to join other Dem leaders and condemn Sen Durbin's recent remarks about Gitmo.

He failed miserably at falling in line with the common (but ill-founded) image of a retired military leader who toes the party line in favor of war.

He failed miserably as a combat soldier in Vietnam by getting wounded. Several times. And going back again.

He failed miserably by allowing a caring, liberal, peaceful world view to be heard by other than the Democratic base and party sycophants.

And now he's out to again prove what a miserable failure he is by having the audacity to show himself to be other than an ivory tower 'pure' ideologue by taking his message where (**gasp**) it might be heard by other than the party faithful.

No doubt he'll fail in his latest gig on Faux.

(Note to readers: This is not intended as flame bait. Rather it is clearly an homage to General Clark, current bashee in these parts. It makes heavy use of irony as a literary device. ....... I mean ...... I'm just sayin' .... so's we're all clear on intent ..... k?)

3. We get it.....
Clark has failed to "live down" to some people's expectations. He's failed to trash other Democrats. He's failed to knuckle under to those who want to 'pick up their marbles and go home" and forfeit the game.

He's failed to turn into just another feckless politican.

We need more Clark!

Seriously if a bio made a President W would never be Pres Clinton would have been trounced by Dole and Kerry would currently be Pres.
What makes a good canidate is someone who can stand up even though he is completely wrong or shrug off the fact he has cheated on his wife repeatedly. Not all the things listed by you. Wesly Clark FAILED as KERRY failed Bill Richardson in 08 a real politician unlike the clowns in 04

20. Seriously....
Can you provide the stats on Clark's miserable failures in politics?

I mean, The man entered in mid September (4 months prior to the first vote) without a personal fortune....and by January '04 had raised the most money for that quarter (beating out Dean).

Remember that he had to hire left-over campaign strategist (since there were 9 other campaigns going on), had no experience running before, had to develop position papers in record time (was not a life time politician with a ready made staff)...and was attacked relentlessly by both parties, as he was everyone's nightmare if he did well.

Because he chose not to contest Iowa (due to too short a time and too little resources and bad advise from Gov. Vilsak and his leftover choice of consultants)....he missed the big media blitz that blew Kerry and Edwards onto the finish line. Still less than a week prior to Iowa and left out of the whole media blitz, Clark was polling 2nd in New Hampshire, 4 points behind Howard Dean, and 1st in Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North Dakota and 2nd in South Carolina.

Regardless of the media slams and the media ignores, Clark still managed to come in third in New Hampshire (after the two favorite New England sons, Kerry and Dean), win the only primary besides Kerry that wasn't his home state, and won second place (without free publicity help that Kerry and Edwards both got in spade) in New Mexico, Arizona and North Dakota. With all of Edwards' press, Clark still outdid Edwards on Mini Tuesday's primaries.

Coming in third in Tennessee and Virginia (due to receiving no press, while the media constantly covered Kerry and Edwards) was his signal that the media had ruled him out, and with no publicity, it was near impossible as the "sheeples" barely knew he was still running.

IMO, Clark did great with his campaign, if one considers the circumstances! Plus, he didn't wear out his welcome, and left the race gracefully and in a dignified manner.

In the meantime, he used his platform to constantly call Bush out on everything from 9/11 to PNAC to Iraq to Bush being part of the Religious Wrong. I think he did a great service to this nation...which I believe was the original intent as to why he ran.

Clark's problem was always winning the primary (with the RW inspired he's not a real Democrat; he voted for Reagan), not the general election, which is why Drudge and Gillespie worked overtime to slime him before it was too late. To think that 4 days prior to New Hampshire, Clark got slammed in the NH debate for respecting Michael Moore's right to call Bush a Deserter demonstrates that it wasn't Clark's campaigning that was so bad, but the way that the corporate media chose to report on it. Reading the media announce that Clark was "not ready from primetime" really meant "let's bring him down, before anyone realizes that this could be the guy".

Unless one actually attended his rallies or watch his town halls, most have no idea how effective Wes Clark actually was. He was the only one talking Values and slamming Bush on 9/11 time and time again. The media just didn't want him to be heard. He made too much sense, he was too charismatic, he was too southern, and carried himself like too much of a leader (he was after all a retired General, supreme Commander of Nato, and the most decorated since Eisenhower). To allow the Democrats that kind of firepower was not what BushCo and Corporate media anticipated. That kind of combination with reasonable media corverage would have spelled Bu-Bye to Bush). Couldn't have that.

So I'm glad that Clark will have some exposure to do what he can to advance the fight for our democracy.

The guy has already accomplished a lot for our side....to dismiss him now, without even waiting to see what he'll do is narrow minded and makes those that would condem him not that much better than those politicians who may have publicly did a Knee Jerk and condemed Howard Dean, IMO.

Liberals are supposed to be better than that....or that's what I always thought.

28. If I were you....
I would concentrate on making coherent sense.....cause Houston, I think we've got a problem!

Clark won Oklahoma without any media....and Edwards, who was the non stop talk from the national AND local media there, didn't.

Certainly, Edwards was supposed to win Oklahoma...after campaigning there for an entire year (yes he did!) and then coming in 2nd in Iowa...and getting the media push that came with that.

Grassrooters won Oklahoma for Wes....and he knows that very well...which is why he discusses issues with us regularily.

PS. If you've got something to say...think, then write!

Clark campaign in Oklahoma. Clark spent little time or money here. It was all grassroots. Edwards started a year earlier, got the most donations of any candidate and visited often ( I was for Edwards before Clark jumped in) Kerry only did well in Tulsa and Oklahoma counties.

In the 2 years JRE campaigned in Oklahoma, he made 25+ trips there.
In the 4 months that Clark campaigned, he could only make fewer than 5 trips there. Edwards was 'expected' to win Oklahoma before the final 2 weeks of the campaign.

SurveyUSA, Zogby, and others had them in a virtual dead heat immediately before the election.

In addition, the night before the primary, Barry Switzer recorded a robo call that went to all Democratic voters in the state promoting Edwards. (His support helped elect the current Governor of OK 2 years before).

Soooo, that begs the question... how many of these facts did you know about your own state?

I think we have to engage them where they are -- and they are on Faux. And we have to think about those people who are "independent" and are swayed by listening to non-stop propaganda that they don't recognize as such. I know a few of these people.

Now, that doesn't mean I have to watch it. Because I don't. And I won't. But I'm not the one that needs to hear what Wes Clark says. Let him talk to the lost. It's a good thing.

48. Well, actually he's inside enemy lines, which is a little different
He is always "truly truthful" and he's had live confrontations on Fox News to prove it. He's also defending Democrats and dissing GOP policies already in his first appearance on FNL:

http://www.newshounds.us/2005/06/17/wesley_clark_surprises_hannity.php

If he's not there long, so be it. While he's there, he'll be speaking the little truth there is to be had to a huge audience that most Democrats just do not have access to on a regular basis.

A little good is better than none at all.

But I'm betting that he's smart enough to speak the truth without going on the obnoxious AND make all those GOP mouthpieces look stupid while staying cool
as a cucumber, showing Fox viewers (not all of whom are rabid Bushbots) what
a Democrat stands for these days.

Democrats have an image problem among many regional voting blocs; Wes Clark is the right guy to introduce many Fox News viewers to another way of looking at
things - the liberal Democratic way of facing the issues - without being strident and without pandering.

I'm still not averse to spending a few minutes watching Fox News every week.
His schedule is at

According to http://securingamerica.com, General Clark will be on Fox News Live:

TOMORROW, 6/19 - 6:10 pm EDT
TUESDAY, 6/21 - 2:00 pm EDT

He was on for three minutes total the other day. BFD. I change the channel afterwards. :)

I'm going to enable his failure by working harder and giving money so we can have him as our next president!

57. Thank god this is satire
I am not sure it is safe to joke about internecine flame wars, but WTH.
Maybe it is better to than get anxious about the purity and motives of good people.

61. Thank you for this. The short-sided, narrow minded haters of this
treasure-of-a-human being really do not understand life.

62. Unfortunately, you are right
And more unfortunately for the Democratic Party, some of the worst haters are Democrats themselves, here at DU and in the far-left media.

75. Wes is not a poll, that;s what makes him great.
He is not a typical poll and not a typical wonk. I like the guy and if Dean doesn't produce results and soon, I'm gonna switch to A Clark warrior!
