With all the DSM info coming to light, why DID Tony Blair
support IWAR???? It seems like he and all his people knew it was wrong, and disagreed with us! What made him support this against what he knew? Any ideas?

1. That's the question I can't get a grip on.
Could it be he wanted Britain to share in the spoils and the aftermath of remaking the Middle East into a more U.S./Brit-corporate-friendly playground ripe for more plunder? Just speculating ...

12. Combination Of Revenge And Lack Of Spine
When Bill Clinton was POTUS, Blair was Clinton-lite with an English brogue. When the shrub came it, Blair shifted to the right so fast that he wound up with a crick in his neck. He doesn't know how to formulate tough foreign policy notions on his own and loves America so much that he wants England to become our 51st state.

2. You'll have to ask him
I think he's the only person who really knows.

All I can say is that I'm terribly disappointed in him.

3. Jr partner has to do what Sr partner says
The payment for WWII was US gets the British Empire, with the English staying on as junior partners. They don't get to make the big decisions, but have a little bit of influence.

4. Bet he's been bribed with a multimilliion-dollar Carlyle Group job
after leaving office. Former PM John Major works there now.

It's the only explanation I can come up with.

7. I never did understand why he supported the Iraq war.
He maintains that Saddam was a bad guy and the world is better off without him in power. I don't buy it.

I think he supported the war because he wants British foreign policy to be close to the US.

If Britain stayed out of the Iraq war, would the US still have invaded? I don't think they would, but you never know with these neocons in power, they could care less about allies.

8. Tony Blair is tight with someone who made some $$$ from Enron ....
I will have to dig up the source and the connection. I've always wondered about that.

16. here it is: Brother's Who Sit at Blair's Right Hand (Ties to Enron)
Sandra Laville and Nils Pratley

The Guardian

Variously described as the Brotherhood, the Firm, or the Jesuits of capitalism, the global consultancy firm McKinsey likes to maintain an aura of secrecy around its work. It never advertises for clients and through a close network of alumni across the international business world it has developed an elite and loyal following who endorse the need to keep the secrets of success within the extended family.

With McKinsey consultants right at the heart of government, however, questions about the company's philosophy, cost-effectiveness and level of influence on policy are increasingly being asked.

<snip>

McKinsey's blue-chip reputation was shaken in the 1990s when its involvement with Enron, the energy company that collapsed in scandal and accounting irregularities, was revealed in detail.

Enron was regarded as the house that McKinsey built. The consultants were being paid $10m a year for their advice; the company was run by Jeffrey Skilling, a former McKinsey partner; and the in-house journal the McKinsey Quarterly regularly lauded Enron as an exemplar of its philosophy of "creative destruction".

9. Hasn't Blair signed on to the PNAC campaign
and isn't Blair one of the biggest supporters of privatization and globalization?

Conquest of the Middle East is right up his ally. He only had to get the British people to go along with him.

10. I think some of Greg Palast's work touches on this question.
However, what you will hear most often from Blair supporters who are anti war is that he's anxious to make a 'contribution to history' or similar and that he refused to be an enabler to a dictator (some of which should sound familiar to people living in the USA). Considering how little has been done regarding North Korea this argument is pretty threadbare.

I tend to feel like many others that Palast's look into the corruption, payola and bizarre ideology of Blair's political machine are far more likely responsible.
