Here's Milbank's view: "While you have been within your rights as ombudsman over the past five years to attempt to excise any trace of colorful or provocative writing from the Post, you are out of bounds in asserting that a columnist cannot identify as 'wingnuts' a group whose followers have long been harassing this and other reporters and their families with hateful, obscene and sometimes anti-Semitic speech."

3. Wingnut
1) Wingnut: (right) wing nut. 2) It's also a nut for screws that has two wings, useful for tightening without a tool.

4. It's unfortunate
that they insist on defining any 'speech' critical of Israeli policy as being "anti-semitic."

The left may be critical of Israel, but they're most unlikely to be 'anti-semitic' in the way that Milbanks means it.

5. It's not 'unfortunate'. Its an outrageous use of the deaths of
millions to attempt to justify your own illegal behavior.

9. This is true
I used the word "unfortunate" as an understatement. I've been known to do that rather than 'pushing the envelope.'

6. Freepers?
I suspect it's the same people who "impersonate" DUers on Conyer's blog, writing things like "Go Conyers! Down with the neocons/ZOG". America's very own little SturmAbteilung.

10. The freepers posting on Conyer's blog
are trying to make anti-war leftists look like anti-semites, as that is apparently their talking point of the week. They're all so imaginative.

8. More than one columnists has said the freeper-types are by far the worst..
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 10:22 AM by Jade Fox
Specifically, Paul Craig Roberts (conservative), Joel Connelly (moderate)
and Roger Ebert (who writes the occasional Liberal political column) have
all stated in print that the letters they get from self-described conservatives
are the vile, insulting, threatening, and semi-literate ones. Craig's column
called "The Brownshirting of America" describes this well:
