Sen. Christopher Dodd :administration is "filibustering their own nominee"
Rice Calls for Vote on Bolton Nomination

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave no indication on Sunday that the Bush administration would accede to Democrats' demands for more information about John R. Bolton's requests for classified intelligence

One of Bolton's leading opponents, Sen. Christopher Dodd (news, bio, voting record), D-Conn, said the administration is "filibustering their own nominee" by refusing to supply information related to whether Bolton tried to "doctor or cook" information regarding U.S. intelligence.

Democrats say they want to check a list of 36 U.S. officials against names — initially blacked out — that Bolton requested and received from national security intercepts he reviewed.

Democrats rejected a list of seven names offered last week by GOP Sen. Pat Roberts (news, bio, voting record) of Kansas, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Asked whether the administration would comply with the Democrats' request, Rice said Roberts "has already spoken to the issue of the nature of those inquiries

and drop all the pretense. Most of this year has not been that much fun for the Repugs. I honsetly we are arriving at a tipping point and something is very wrong with public support for this administration's domestic and foreign policies.

Call it arrogance, hubris, natural consequences of being overly greedy but they truely have themselves to blame. The less they are willing to compromise and listen, the more I like it. Its called painting one's self into a corner.

3. I don't think they really want John Bolton to be confirmed.
That's the only explanation I can come up with for their behavior. Dodd is 100% correct.

4. I think they want Bolton confirmed
But they're just not accustomed to cooperating. The idea that the Democrats could ask for further information and that tney'd supply it just doesn't fit with the bully boy image. You want more information? Feed it to Sweeney! Here's our nominee, just vote. You don't need no steenking information about him!

Most folks, given the bare facts, could draw a similar conclusion about the arrogance of the administration. Which is why they're spinning faster than a dervish to make it look unreasonable for the Democrats to want to know all they can about a nominee.

Good phrase by Dodd, though: Filibustering their own nominee.
