...................

General Clark will appear on the CSPAN program "On the Road to the White House" at 6:30pm EDT this Sunday, June 19, 2005. The program highlights General Clark's recent keynote address to New Hampshire democratic activists at the Manchester Flag Day Dinner.

As Larry in KC has noted elsewhere here at GDP, this is the appearance where General Clark, unprompted, defends Howard Dean from recent criticism.

Gitmo remark makes Durbin easy prey

June 19, 2005

BY LYNN SWEET WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF

'There's an old rule in politics, and I've seen it many times," said retired Gen. Wesley Clark on Thursday night, as he brushed aside Fox News talker Sean Hannity's demand for him to condemn Sen. Dick Durbin."Whoever uses the 'Nazi' word first loses," said Clark, the former Democratic presidential candidate who is a political analyst for Fox.

Six months ago, Senate Democrats picked Durbin (D-Ill.) to be their No. 2 leader because he is one of the most articulate and informed senators on his side of the aisle.

Even the slow-on-the-uptake corporate media can see that Clark put Hannity in his place.

5. Damn, that's good news
Hannity must be livid.

Whoever he's going to smackdown today will be very wary of being tomorrow's news.

See you later, Clark2008. This evening will be a good day for Democrats.

6. What that story (intentionally I feel) failed to make clear
is that Clark's reference to the first use of the Nazi term followed footage of Santorum comparing Democrats to Nazi's.

8. Yep,
I agree...the article misleadingly implies that Clark was criticizing Durbin, IMO.

10. I sent the video link and Fox transcript link to all of Durbin's offices
And told them that the paper is trying to create divisions by their sly (or sloppy)
chronological misreferencing.

Rove and his cabal of sociopathic assholes will get their karma someday.

In the meantime, they'll keep trying to f*ck up General Clark (and other great Democratic leaders). But the Republican Mean Machine will have a hard time now that Wes Clark is speaking truth to power on Fox where we can access a videoclip and check transcripts for proof against any lying spin the Rovian crew tries to create.

Here's a bit more, just to cover all the bases:

Here's the phone number of the Chicago Sun-Times: (312) 321-3000.

In case you are from Illinois, please write a LTTE and send some support to Senator Durbin and also credit General Clark for defending him against Hannity's
hypocritical GOP mouthpiece badgering at letters@suntimes.com

Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 03:43 PM by ClarkUSA
I was off to a Father's Day event and hurriedly scanned through the byline Clark2008 posted, which sounded okay. Guess they got it partially right but went
on to create division -- Durbin has got to know it's not true. He and General Clark are friends.

Teaches me a lesson to read carefully and thoroughly, huh?

Well, we'll have to correct the media whores, shan't we?

:spank:

4. This should make for an interesting contrast
Clark speaking in a non partisan role in a theoretically non partisan setting and Clark in an openly partisan setting as an openly proud Democrat. My bet is he will make the seemingly different roles seem to merge smoothly. Ideally people belong to political parties because they want what is best for America and think that the programs and priorities of their Party represents that. Ideally, therefor, there is nothing "Un-American" about belonging to one political Party rather than another. That isn't the ideal of Rovian Republicans like Bush however, or their media surrogates in places like FOX News. They are constantly working to define "Republican" as pro American and "Democrat" as (for all practical purposes) anti-American.

As partisan as I have been forced by reality to become, even I believe that the majority of Republican voters sincerely care about this country and it's people. The Rovians have been dangerously successful in their strategy over the last decade or more, as official Republican bumper stickers shout "Keep America Free - Vote Republican" and hardly anyone calls them on the implications of their slogan. Many Democratic leaders have been cowered. Unless they are in very safely Democratic districts they are careful not to criticize Bush Administration actions in the world too strongly out of fear of giving "comfort to the enemy".

Our real enemies weaken America by dividing it. Our real enemies undermine America by subverting our democratic traditions. Our real enemies sell out the future of our children for money in their pockets now. Clark speaks for America as a Democrat, and he does so in every setting. He doesn't play some of us off against others of us. I think that is why he can speak honestly in both of the settings he will be featured on tonight.

16. Hey, I don't have Fox
How'd the Fox gig go?

I take it that this one was more of a straight info interview and so not as much "fun" as the Hannity appearance....

17. Clark again repeated some major points he keeps making
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 07:30 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Bush mistakenly took us into Iraq in an elective war and didn't finish the job in Afghanistan. As a result we have squandered hundreds of Billions and 1700+ lives. Iraq now is a crisis. Also Bush disengaged from N. Korea and Iran, won't even talk to Iran (and won't talk bilaterally with N. Korea) while they as a result accelerate their weapons programs. Clark doesn't approve of rigid time lines (for withdrawal), he wants strategies for success, and he ticked off what America should be doing (but isn't under Bush). Main emphasis on talking directly to Iraq's neighbors and giving them reasons to support a stable Iraq, also effective training of Iraq's forces.

On Gitmo, Clark said we should have asked all our Allies to develop a program for detainees, share the burden and ownership of it. Do it to standards all can agree with.

P.S. Clark is worried about our volunteer Army.

22. Thanks....
Sounds like he didn't change his tune much for Fox. Good to hear. I imagine the video of it will show up somewhere on the internet so I can see....

And I'm worried about our volunteer army also. I've been so since I heard Clark on the air with Ed Schultz. That interview really made me realize what an incredible mess * is making of our military. I really, really hope it doesn't come down to a draft....but you've really got to feel for the guys already caught up in this...especially folks like the National Guard who really didn't sign up for what they've gotten into.

24. IF YOU WANT TO BE INSPIRED
in a way not seen in a public figure since Bobby Kennedy, then watch Wes Clark's keynote speech to a Flag Day gathering of Dems. in Manchester,NH last weekend. It was on C-Span today, and should be in their archives shortly. www.cspan.org
This is an awesome display from a man who WILL NOT ALLOW the Rethugs to claim the flag as theirs. He goes on to touch on a range of Dem. values to be promoting. In 2008,40 years after RFK, we will have our man reviving the RFK following.

Not since Bobby Kennedy.......
