Pope blesses 45 Ferrari Race Cars
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 08:12 AM by IanDB1
Blessing cars?

What's next?

Marrying them to one another?

VATICAN CITY Pope Benedict has offered his blessings to some fast movers.

Dozens of gleaming Ferrari sports cars were driven into St. Peter's Square -- to get the pope's blessing after his noontime remarks.

The drivers weren't disappointed, as the pope made special mention of the Easy Rider World Association by saying that "we see them and soon we'll hear them."

Maybe they were talking cars?

Here's John Paul II doing what looks like blessing a model car:

Ferrari to make Pope car

Ferrari president Luca Montezemolo says the Italian Formula One team will build a special car for Pope John Paul II to mark his 26 years as pontiff.

"We will make a Ferrari Formula One car especially for the Pope," Montezemolo told reporters on a visit to the Vatican.

However, Montezemolo drew the line at changing the colour of the car from its customary red to a different shade that the pontiff might prefer.

Green light for John Paul miniseries

CBS television has given producers the go-ahead for a big-budget miniseries charting the life of the late Pope John Paul II, with guidance from the Vatican, the network said today.

According to Reuters, the four-hour, fact-based drama, tentatively titled Pope John Paul II, will chronicle the story of Karol Wojtyla from his youth in Poland through his more than 26-year reign as head of the Roman Catholic Church.

The program is being made by the producers behind the network's hit miniseries Jesus, which aired several years ago and starred Jeremy Sisto in the title role and Debra Messing from the TV sitcom Will & Grace as Mary Magdalene.

5. This is not at all unheard of
His Holiness is still the Bishop of Rome. It is common for local Bishops to bless business venture of hos flock. Although largely ceromonial. It happens in many contries.

6. Blessing
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 08:39 AM by Chef
We have an annual event here called the Blessing of the Bikes where some local magician blesses the "Hogs" for the bikers. Two thousand years from now, when some historian is digging through the refuse of our past, they will say our society had this odd practice of invoking the powers of our invisible cloud person on inanimate idols of transportation. Perhaps GM should ask for some help.

7. Maybe Dale Jr.
Should take the No. 8 Chevrolet to Rome to be blessed. He's having a terrible year. Might change his luck.

8. If there is one car that does not need to be blessed, it is a Ferrari!
Blessed are Ferraris, for they shall inherit the road.

9. The sheer idiocy of sanctified fantasy would make me laugh...
...if people weren't so ready to go out and kill for it.

This is pathetic, childish superstition. What a ridiculous waste of time; if this goosestepping old coot gives a damn about humanity, why does he waste time on frivolities like this?

12. Priests (and the Pope is a priest) bless cars, boats, homes, gardens,

pets, sacramentals (medals, rosaries, etc.) I believe rabbis also perform various blessings. The special role of priests all goes back to the Old Testament so mocking priests may be a form of anti-Semitism.

blessing such a profligate material object is bad judgment
