The latest cowardly excuse for not serving in the Military
I was chatting with two young bush supporting lads (poor white trash with no future) but obviously getting info from somewhere and I asked them why they would not join the Army if they thought bush's war was justified. They said, and I kid you not, that liberals had distorted the truth about Iraq and that liberals don't support the troops. I asked them if that was the reason they would not enlist and they said yes. End of conversation. I wonder what pulpit that info came from? Gotta love the constitution hating conservatives and religiously insane who care not about our country. Hell, I don't think they care about each other. Concentrated effort? Last week gary bauer (puke extraordinaire) was whining about how the liberal media was telling the Iraqi story (the truth). Not once did ol gar urge his kind to enlist. This old vet thinks we should round up all the young republicans and make men out of them.

2. Go ask one of the troops what they consider to be "support"....
1) another soldier with a gun next to them, watching their ass.

2) money for vests, bullets, armor.

PERIOD.

If you are not enlisting (or sending your kids) and you are looking for more tax cuts, then fuck you, you are not "supporting the troops."

That last sentence right there cuts right to the heart of the matter. Great post.

I live in a Navy town (Bremerton, WA) that is swimming in yellow ribbon magnets, and I suspect many of the vehicles are driven by parents of active duty military. The rest of them are just displaying jingoistic flag-waving crap...

3. Great. Now I feel guilty.
If only I supported the war, those kids would feel more comfortable donning the uniform and rollin' on Iraq.

I'm sorry. I really am. Please... can you find it in your heart to forgive me?

:sarcasm:

4. You should tell them ...
that all branches of the government - executive, legislative, and now soon the judicial - are controlled by the republicans, including the media and the economy - big business/corporations. Why should they give a rat's ass whether or not the liberals support the war?

Their president supports the war, and last year, over half of American's supported the war. I don't get it? Tell them to get their cowardly asses over to Iraq - they had no problem sending others to fight their war. Now it's time for them to anti-up and put their money where their mouth is.

and I even served my country for seven long years in the Army during the Clinton administration (with a Repub majority in both houses)...they can't let me get away with that, can they? I guess they can, but grudgingly, I suppose ...

5. OK, lemme get this straight...
They won't enlist because WE don't "support the troops"? I was under the impression a big part of being an American is doing the right thing regardless of what others think.

OK I'll support the troops; I'll put a magnetic yellow ribbon on my car. Will you enlist now? Look I'm supporting the troops...hello...yellow ribbon?

9. Ask them what they personally are doing to support the troops?
That is besides the $3.99 ribbon.

16. Wow that sounds like they twisted around a RW radio talking point
I keep running into this happening. My folks have some sort of way of listening to the TV that ends up in some ridiculous BS that isn't even the talking point they are supposed to pick up on, but strangely their version of the spin actually works. These kids obviously need more experience listening poorly to their talking points.

18. Bow before me, puny mortals!
I can stop the entire American wehrmacht simply by . . . withholding my approval for rape, pillage, and torture! Committed young men will refuse to join the military to fight for the freedom and democracy they so fervently believe in because I, gratuitous, do not approve.

What will I not approve of next? Mwahahahahaha!

then maybe they'd spontaneously combust, or just go away.

Oh, wait a minute, that only works some of the time, when it suits the repuke agenda.

Because of your disapproval, I now don't have to enlist and go to Iraq ;)

Here's a wink and a smile from the Twilight Zone.
