Scott Ritter: The US War with Iran has Already Begun
A war with Iran will make the war with Iraq seem like boot camp! Check the CIA world factbook for stats on the differences. - Dan

The US War with Iran has Already Begun
Published on Monday, June 20, 2005 by AlJazeera
by Scott Ritter

....snip....

The reality is that the US war with Iran has already begun. As we speak, American over flights of Iranian soil are taking place, using pilotless drones and other, more sophisticated, capabilities.

The violation of a sovereign nation's airspace is an act of war in and of itself. But the war with Iran has gone far beyond the intelligence-gathering phase.

President Bush has taken advantage of the sweeping powers granted to him in the aftermath of 11 September 2001, to wage a global war against terror and to initiate several covert offensive operations inside Iran.

The most visible of these is the CIA-backed actions recently undertaken by the Mujahadeen el-Khalq, or MEK, an Iranian opposition group, once run by Saddam Hussein's dreaded intelligence services, but now working exclusively for the CIA's Directorate of Operations.

It is bitter irony that the CIA is using a group still labelled as a terrorist organisation, a group trained in the art of explosive assassination by the same intelligence units of the former regime of Saddam Hussein, who are slaughtering American soldiers in Iraq today, to carry out remote bombings in Iran of the sort that the Bush administration condemns on a daily basis inside Iraq.

1. Uh-oh
I was considering buying a book on Iran a couple weeks ago; I read a history of Iraq after the war began. I wish I had read it before the war- it was enlightening, and I wished someone in the administration had read one too.

I was going to do the same for Iran, but I figured we wouldn't go to war with them. I might just have to get one anyway now!

4. I'm not surprized because
well, not many people know this but actually the Iraq war was started welll before the "official bombing in Baghdad". Actually there were 78 coalition strikes in 2002, long before anyone thought there was going to be a war at all...in fact they were striking Iraq before 9-11!!!! did you know that? check it out...

3. feeling positive tonight (kinda)
We've (the US gov, in our name) have been doing this type of thing for as long as we've been the US.
I don't think we can go. We don't even have the troops for Iraq(gate) much less anyone else.
I don't think you'd find the evenish split that allowed Iraq either, especially w/ the DSM (maybe) getting fired up.

Not that I support these actions, but I don't think we're going in full force.
