Parliament more democratic than Congress. |
|
I went to a talk about the DSM this evening, given by someone who spends a lot of their time in Great Britain. After the talk the floor was opened for questions and comments, so I said, "We know that we're unlikely to get anything accomplished here because the Republicans control Congress. What are the chances of the U.K. Parliament accomplishing anything?"
I was told that a lot of democratic countries have rejected our system and adopted the parliament system precisely because it is more democratic and more able to hold officials accountable for their actions. I was reminded that Parliament can require Tony Blair or any other British official to appear before them whenever they wish, and that he is REQUIRED to answer their questions.
It must be a real blessing to live in the free world.

A lot of countries who used our system had to scrap it because it lead to dictatorship. I think the President should be resposible to Congress to answer question and that the cabinet should be appointed from Congress.

3. I'll bet Iraq has a Congress instead of a Parliament. |

I've been reading that their elected officials have unanimously asked for the withdrawal of foreign troops, and have been ignored.
Sure sounds like a Congress instead of a Parliament to me.
