Poll question: What would Bush approval ratings look like IF bin Laden is captured? |
|
What would Bush approval ratings look like IF bin Laden is captured?
Note the big if there, I think Goss was bluffing yesterday. Maybe he has a guess, and poisitioned satellites to watch for any caravans after his announcement.
But, if he is captured what would Bush approval ratings look like and if you can describe why you conclude that.

That's the hallmark of the Bush approval ratings. As long as there is no big invasion, attack, or capture his approvals sink and sink and sink
He's elected, sink sink sink
9/11 sky high!
sink sink sink sink
AFGHANISTAN!
sink sink sink sink
IRAQ!
sink sink sink sink
CAPTURED SADDAM
sink sink sink sink
So I conclude it would happen again, as per evidence. I'd say his approvals would shoot up to the 60's, and then
sink sink sink sink

3. If his approval rating increases.... |
|
it will be one more in a long list of examples of how stupid the American public is! That would be the ultimate "sheeple" coup...to give BushCo credit for capturing someone that should have been captured years ago.

5. My two cents to my own post is Iraq is such a disaster... |
|
it would over shadow even something as spectacular as a bin Laden capture.

7. Two weeks, just like when we caught Saddam |
|
and then the attacks would continue or increase, and that's that.

8. with adequate noise from our side, UBL's 'capture' would be a big minus |
|
for the bush corporation.
The media circus resulting from 'the capture' should draw a distinct comparison between UBL (responsible for 9/11) and Iraq/Saddam ( NOT responsible for 9/11 - but were used to send US to war on a pack of lies)

12. Big, but he won't be seeing 91 again. |

I think the folks who have it at 60 are probably right.
Why? because you asked--because it'd be a vindication for many, that this Administration really was trying to fight terra, and that after all the hard work, they'd finally broght in the ringleader. Simple.
And frankly, for one time only, the sheeple would have a point. I mean, if they really do capture OBL and bring him to justice, it's going to make our Preznit look like a, um, President.
But not much higher than 60, I think, because there are probably an equal number of Americans who think that Chimpy is just plain evil no matter what, as there are who think that he's Christlike no matter what. I'd put both camps at around 30-35% or so.
Mind you the approval ratings will sink like a stone in a month or two following, but if Chimpy times it right (obviously, Sept/Oct 2006 would be perfect) he can get some of that political capital he never actually had, before.

Everyone knows there was some sham around the capture of Saddam (like ... maybe we were there *after* he was captured).
The War in Iraq® is a mess that overshadows everything.
The country really *does* know he's an imcompetent shit propped up by manufactured events and staged photo-ops.
Some people will be reminded how pissed off they were when bin Laden wasn't captured when he *should* have been.
And whatever increase he gets won't last. In the end he'll be lower than before he captures him because the joy of the capture will quickly turn to greater sourness than that now felt.
