A "war" against terrorism could go on forever. Like the war on drugs. Haha.

There could always be a new bad guy, real or otherwise, to keep the nation palpatating and the money flowing (who knows where it's actually going?)

It's a fluid in place of a solid. Brilliant strategy for ensuring a continuous wartime mil-indus-intel economy, and resource grabs whereever the "bad guy" happens to "be" at the moment.

1. It's even better, because the enemy is not clearly defined!

2. Absolutely!
This is about unwinable as the cold war was. It's actually worse though! This is more like the war on drugs...you are fighting a thing or an ideal. Not an actual person or enemy. People you can kill...ideas can't be.

the war on drugs just wasn't building up defense spending enough. People didn't feel threatened enough by drugs - despite the propaganda.

4. It's not perfect, because its effect is wearing off.
It's scarier at first, because it's so hard to define. But eventually that definition will wear thin, it will lose its strength because no one can see a terrorist. In time, if the NeoCons have their way, a new replacement for the Soviet Union will be brought into focus.

The United Nations.

It's already begun with Bolton. That's what getting him into the UN is all about.
