Bush tells Baptists he opposes "the creation of life only to destroy it."
Bush calls for gay-marriage amendment
President reassures religious conservatives at Baptist meeting

"President Bush addresses the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting via satellite on Tuesday, praising membersfor their strong family values."

In a nod to polling data that suggest Americans strongly support embryonic stem cell research, Bush sought to focus the debate on theoretical pitfalls should such science be perfected. Not once did he use the words “stem cell” or “embryos.”

Instead, the president cast his position as standing in the way of “cloning” — which some scientists say could be a realistic result of the research — and “the creation of life only to destroy it.”

The Southern Baptist Convention strongly condemns homosexuality, and the president’s remarks were greeted with sustained applause. Gay rights activists were organizing a rally for Wednesday morning at the Nashville Public Library to protest the convention's preaching on gays and lesbians.

BELOW: "the creation of life only to destroy it."

8. Of course he's against “the creation of life only to destroy it.”
He needs all the cannon fodder he can get.

He would uch rather kill them when they're adults.

11. with Bush SCIENCE IS OUT THE WINDOW
These IVF embryos are created to make babies. From what I understand the reason they create more than necessary, is because it is a very painful and time consuming process to extract one egg at a time from a woman.

They are NOT creating them just to destroy them. Does the man know ANY biology? Even in natural conceptions, just because an egg is fertilized it doesn't mean that it will automatically implant - approximately 50% conceived naturally never do. Does he really believe that of the approximately 400,000 frozen embryos, even if ALL parents decided to donate them for adoption, all 400,000 would result in babies?

16. Don't worry! They'll all be raised as patriots, as soldiers
Indoctrinated from an early age to tearfully offer their lives to the oil cartel.

Sometimes I'm extreme to make a simple point. Even so, I hear a ring of truth to the exaggeration.

9. The scary thing is he believes his own bull shit
Could be scarier - maybe he doesn't and is being Karl Rovingly cynical (as suggested in Tom Frank's book "What's the Matter with Kansas? : How Conservatives Won the Heart of America").

Or maybe he doesn't have the understanding to ask - and actually believes what Rove is peddling.

14. This could be good.
Trying to pass an actual amendment is very difficult. That is altering the very fabric of our nation for discriminatory purposes, and also makes a HUGE case of how "Big Government" the Repukes have become. Time to play that card over and over. Don't let those conservatives and libertarians forget how badly the Neocons are screwing them, how much control over the people's daily lives they want.

I'm seriously hoping he just screwed his party for an entire generation.
