2. In the long run, Durbin will be
vindicated because what he's saying is true.

Like a DUer said.."being a Democrat means having to say you're sorry"..unless you're Dean(my words).

7. Saying you're sorry when you've told the truth is weak and with bullies
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 05:20 PM by shance
it breeds disrespect and disdain.

When you apologize to bullies, you not only embolden them, you embolden wrongdoing and dishonesty and you make it that much harder to bring them and their horrific life threatening policies down.

Why do you think our country is in the position we are in right now Zidzi? For standing our ground??

Hell no.

We are in it for the most part, because many Americans and many of our leaders have skirted our responsibilities to defend our Democratic form of government from a group of immoral, spoiled rotten, fascists and we have jeopardized our future as a result.

There is no redeeming quality apologizing when we have done nothing wrong. It's a reverse form of dishonesty within itself.

HOWEVER, we are also responsible to support others telling the truth and being strong so they WON'T be unduly pressured to buckle by mean, unethical people. I would wager that is what probably happened to Durbin. He's a good leader and a strong person. However he is only as strong as the back up he gets. It's our responsibility and more importantly, the other Democratic leaders on the Hill's responsibility to back him up.

15. I agree with you, 1000%!
My post may not have indicated that..but I do.

Just because the Dems say they're "sorry" doesn't make it right.

If they're telling the truth and I can't think of a time when they weren't then they shouldn't apologize..a la Dean.

3. He should have never apologized to the scum called republicans
That is a pile of crap, they are the ones who should apologize to the American people for what they have done to this country in such a short time.
What it took 225 years to build, they have nearly destroyed.

I demand an apology from each and every republican in this country for destroying democracy as they have. And I demand it now, regardless of how much time it waste.

4. And what would that sound like
I'm sorry I was sorry. Fuck you, holocaust victims and troops.

You see, he never retracted the truth, and he never said he was sorry to the Republicans. Only for the WWII reference, and if his statements could be seen as being against the troops.

The truth still stands. I hold no ill will toward Durbin for feeling he had to say that.

This really sucks; I thought better of Durbin.

When does Bush get to apologize for violating the Geneva Conventions?

12. Wonder who paid Daley to turn on him?
Everyone knows that family history. After his dad encouraged the police brutality at the 68 convention, that so called dynasty should have been over then and there.

19. The Daley's suck!
I'd rather see a Republican as mayor of Chicago than a Daley. At least we would know where they stand.

11. The problem is not what Durbin said, who Durbin is, what
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 05:28 PM by FrenchieCat
Durbin has, what Durbin should have done or not done and when; the problem is the policies of this administration. Period.

We are allowing yourselves to be diverted away from the issue, which is the goal of the Republicans. We are, once again, circling one of our own with submachine guns and hoping that aiming within the circle will "change a damn thing".

Gizmo will still be Gizmo, and now one of our best Dems is wounded.

GOP Mission accomplished!

Remember Dan Rather? Well this is just same shit, different issue to detract from.

our Democratic leaders, especially the good ones. He apologized for the extreme references in his remarks, but I doubt seriously that anyone is mistaking that for him saying "I was all wrong about Gitmo, its a friggin paradise". He apologized for the rhetoric, not for the content.

He did what he felt he needed to do, and he was gracious. He apologized not because he was literally wrong, but because clearly some people were deeply offended. Let's respect that and leave it alone.
