Durbin needs to find his pair...
Fucking Pelosi has a bigger set on her than he does. I cannot believe he caved to the right wing. This jut gives them more ammunition.

3. He caved to mayor Daley ...
... who chewed him out publically about two hours ago.

Daley has a son in the Army.

4. Too bad he had to apologize
but do not exagerate. Durbin is one of our assets in the Senate.

He did what he had to do so that they stop talking about a few words and that Democrats could focus on the big picture.

10. Durbin is a fine and decent liberal Democrat who was forced to apologize-
primarily by Richard Dailey--you remember, the man who insisted that Gore give up the fight and let Dubya be President.

16. Actually, that was Richie's brother, Bill, who was running Gore's
campaign. BTW the correct spelling of the name is Daley, not Dailey.

I agree, I think "Lil Richie" chewing him out was the final straw for Senator Durbin. Richie and the rest of the so-called "Cook County Democrats" control a lot of votes here in Illinois.

Richie should start worrying about his own ass. Rumor has it in Chicago the Feds are looking into him and his cohorts pretty closely.

I would imagine the phone lines at Chicago's City Hall tomorrow are going to be very tied up and they won't all be supporting Richie's tirade this afternoon.

8. This comment is inappropriate
Durbin made a speech where the content if parsed correctly is correct. But, the Republicans chose to make inferences that were not justified. However, Durbin abviously realizes that the use of Nzis, Pol Pot etc has backfired and rather than people talking about his message they are crucifying him.

Durbin seems in other talks to be one of the most sensible, honest and genuine people we have. My guess is he prefers to apologize for any perceived insult - but I would bet he will continue to talk out on these issues.

Part of the problem is that these types of words are explosive. At this time, we are made to look bad for criticising things that are truly wrong.

The man should have had more guts. He should have told Daley and the Republican party to go Chaney them selfs.

12. He is a grown up and he may feel that closing the issue of
language will stop the damage. I don't think he did anything wrong, but I think the language was impolitic and was turned against him. The important thing is to address the real problem with US behavior.
The problem is that Democrats, fair or not, lose support through this stuff.

14. He should have never apologized.
He did nothing wrong.
Like you said:
"The problem is that Democrats, fair or not, lose support through this stuff."

That is why I said that he should have told everyone that is bitching at him to go Chaney them selfs.

11. This is what the US has come to
People are being forced to apologize for telling the truth. And the George Bush and the damned Republican party can lie to take us to war and cause thousands of people's death on the battlefield of an illegal and immoral war which is more offensive than anything anyone could say. They made this about them and not the soldiers, like they do every issue making out as if they are the victims of an attack. I hope that every lie the neocons have told comes out and Bush has no choice to resign. Dick Durbin should have stood his ground and not allowed this people to railroad everyone who disagrees with their warped ideology.

13. Exactly
We're supposed to thank them for not killing us while they robbed us blind. The mindset is one of fear and gratitude. Just like the neotheothugs planned, and the MSM propagates.

Durbin told the truth.
He knew what he was saying.
An apology doesn't make the facts go away.
He brought attention to Guantanamo.

Senator Durbin apologizes for Guantanamo remarks
June 21, 2005 — "I'm sorry if anything I've said caused any offense or pain to those who have such bitter memories of the Holocaust, the greatest moral tragedy of our time."
Senator Dick Durbin delivered an emotional apology Tuesday, a week after he compared American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis.

Mayor Daley and several Republican groups in Illinois have demanded an apology from Durbin.

Durbin said on the Senate floor late Tuesday afternoon, with tears in his eyes and a voice choked with emotion, that he tried to apologize in a press release last week for a bad choice of words. Prompted by his outrage over the treatment of Muslim prisoners at the hands of U.S. soldiers at Guantanamo Bay,Tuesday's emotional apology, coming hours after a barrage of criticism from fellow Democrat , Mayor Richard Daley. Durbin's comments were recorded by C-Span in a Senate chamber so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

15. 2 Thoughts...
I realize that he probably had no other choice. I wish he would have left it at what he said on Friday. That was just like what he and the other Dems let Santorum get away with over the nuclear option in May. Nobody demanded an apology from Santorum on the floor. Nobody said what Santorum said was the "worst thing heard on the Senate floor" (or whatever the hell Cheney said). That's what I'm most disappointed about. That the Dems didn't stand up then and aren't standing up now.

The other thought is more superficial. The article says "in a Senate chamber so quiet you could hear a pin drop." Well, duh!!! I've been in the Senate chamber. It would be impossible not to hear a pin drop there are so few people in there. Definitely not liberal press there.

17. You're right.
I really wish he hadn't said another word about it and let the truth stand. What he said was true.

And your second point isn't superficial at all. The MSM is twisting the whole thing. He didn't say what they say he said. As usual they are lying.

Senator Durbin is receiving support from Illinois Democrats, including Barak Obama, Jan Schakowsky and Lane Evans of Rock Island.

We can support him too. :)

18. Durbin caved
Contrary to the the original post, Durbin's balls are now located in Daley's lock box. It appears that Daley will inform Durbin when and where his balls will be returned. Maybe Durbin can get a break from Frist for the surgery required to reattach his sack. In the meantime, the dems in the senate look like pussies.

20. I can believe he caved
I have no doubt his staff was nuked with abusive emails and phone calls, not to mention every corner of the media. The Republicans calling him to floor the very next day demanding an apology was red meat for a discombulated Illinois GOP, and an opportunity for them to focus on what they do best: ATTACK!!!

Like I said in a post yesterday, I'm beginning to think the Republicans have Call to Arms! beepers. They all get the same text message at the same time with orders to throw everything on the wall and see what sticks.
