F*ck Richard Daily! The FBI has documented the abuse at Guantanamo.
The question is who authorized this treatment? They are the ones who must be held accountable. Dick Durbin was right. It is the administration who should apologize to the American people for abandoning Geneva Conventions.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/21/AR2005062101193.html

Dick Durbin said this:

"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime _ Pol Pot or others _ that had no concern for human beings," the senator said June 14.
The comment created a buzz on the Internet and among conservative talk radio hosts, but Durbin initially refused to apologize.

"This administration should apologize to the American people for abandoning the Geneva Conventions and authorizing torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure," he said the day after his initial comments.

By last Friday, Durbin was trying to clarify his comments, yet the White House and top Republicans including Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist refused to relent. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, in an interview scheduled for broadcast Wednesday on Fox News radio's "The Tony Snow Show," tried to equate the comment with actress Jane Fonda calling U.S. soldiers war criminals during a visit to North Vietnam in 1972.

On Tuesday, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley _ a fellow Democrat _ added his voice to the chorus of criticism, saying, "I think it's a disgrace to say that any man or woman in the military would act like that."

1. I'm disappointed in Durbin. Dean didn't apologize to Repukes
for his truthful comments. Durbin should not have either. What Durbin said on the senate floor was the Truth and sometimes the Truth hurts. That's the way it is.

2. And today, he took a spanking and apologized, abjectly,
on the senate floor.

6. What is saddest is that his own party pressured him to do so.

4. As someone that was born and raised in the City of Chicago
all I have to say to "Lil Richie" is this: STFU!!!

He should start worrying about his scandal plagued administration and quit worrying about what the best Senator from Illinois says or does not say.

Rich Daley is nothing but a DINO, always has been, always will be.

16. Thanks.
I grew up on the south side of chicago near midway airport. And I have nothing bad to say about him. All my friends and family had union jobs, the parks I played softball in for 10 years were good, the lakefront where I skated thousands of miles is beautiful, I have never been harmed on public transportation. There was public assistance for my family when we really needed it. You must understand the real history of chicago and you will see he is good at the game that is played there. True, I don't want to play the game. But I am able to look at chicago, it's history and evolution as well as my own being from where I am from, since I am so removed from it now that it just seems like a mythical place or story that I read or want to write. You should read some Mike Royko books because he speaks of chicago quite frankly.

13. And Just In Case You May Have A Few More Questions
about some of the others you may see here.... MSM means Main Stream Media. EOM means End of Message. n/t means No Text. And I'm sure you know what IMO means because that's pretty universal. I hated to ask about a few of these when I started my addiction here at D.U.!

Welcome and good to have you on board! If anyone else has others they would like to add, please fill this newby in. I'm just quoting a few.

Again, Welcome To D.U.!

7. I watched the whole thing happen on cspan
I can not believe how far his clarification had to go. It was ridiculous, especially the things that the republicans were saying about his remark. There was nothing wrong with his remark. What about yesterday when repub said the dems had a war on american christianity going on and the dem had to call for words to be taken down. It was very interesting to see, but had to leave before I heard if there was a penalty on the foul.

15. Welcome to DU
I'm afraid the rules don't apply to the other side, they have the media in their pockets, and the brain dead sheep eating out of their hands.

Add to that the fact that Dems like Lieberman and his "can't we all just get along" mind set, Durbin didn't have a chance. You noticed that Lieberman didn't have much to say when Rick Santorum compared the Democrats in the Senate to Nazis, and come to think of it the media didn't put out much on it either.

We Democrats are not long for this world I think, we have very little clout and as far as the kool-aid drinkers are concerned we belong in camps, or maybe in a grave.

It would seem that our Senators can talk the talk but don't have the guts to walk the walk. They don't stand up to the Repukes, not very well, the deal for the judges was not a win, and either Bush has uncovered some traitors who will support Bolton, or he will just appoint him to the UN position when the Senate goes off for the July
4th Holiday.

Just remember the rules are different for Democrats.

8. Hey, Daley........
They DID act like that. It's a documented FACT! :grr: I know you're proud of your son, but the Army trains soldiers to do just what you said they'd never do! They've done it Dickie! Are you dismissing reality because your family and yourself have a connection to the entity guilty of this behavior?
Daley's no better than his old man, a lying, crooked POS that has NO business condemning anyone.
In short, DICK, shut the fu-- up!

12. Ever wonder why his son enlisted in the Army?
Could it be that the kid is so dumb he couldn't get a decent job even with all his connections.

Let's face it his father isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer either.

Oh, I'm sure that Patrick Daley will see action in Iraq. Yeah, right. Swine will fly first before that EVER happens.

14. Pay no attention to the DSM or the soon-to-be-released (maybe) Abu Ghraib
evidence, folks...

No, the REAL STORY is what Dick Durbin said (echoing the voices of actual concentration camp survivors, like Mr. Otto Perl, who wrote this LTTE to the NY Times on May 17, 2004) ..clearly! It's not about the behavior, or the lies, or the war- it's about the OUTRAGE around the CRITICISM!

Fuck it.

And Daley can piss off. I'm old enough to remember what a goon his daddy could be.

17. The letter you mentioned deserves posting;it speaks directly to the issue
The Horror, Revisited

Published: May 17, 2004, Monday

To the Editor:

It was with dismay and horror that I viewed the photo of a cowering Iraqi prisoner menaced by vicious military guard dogs at Abu Ghraib prison (front page, May 10).

As an Austrian Jew imprisoned in Dachau and Buchenwald in 1938 and 1939, I was an eyewitness to similar inhumane behavior by sadistic Nazi SS guards.
