Corrected: Various sites reporting that RENQUIST RESIGNS
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 10:41 PM by Atman
(Edit: I originally attributed this to Matty D. In fact, the link I provided is to the Drudge RETORT, not Report. My bad)

The distraction du jour from RoveCo?

==

There's no corroboration in the mainstream press, but the publisher of an anti-Ann Coulter site claims that Chief Justice William Rehnquist has resigned: "According to a source very close to the Bush administration, US Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist has submitted his resignation to President Bush. Apparently they are waiting until the Supreme Court's term ends this week to make this announcement."

Conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt told his audience the same thing, according to a post this afternoon on FreeRepublic.Com.

The court's chief justice for 19 years, Rehnquist, 80, has been battling thyroid cancer. Though many expect his resignation after this term, he has not made any public indication of his intentions, and Sen. Arlen Specter recently said there's a "good chance" he will stay on.

1. Nah, it was expected, wasn't it
The timing might be suspected though, now that you say it.

No distraction. But the urgency to clear the way for a conservative Justice may increase the urgency to nuke the Senate re: Bolton.

Or is that a stretch?
