Mass Anti-war and Impeachment Rally in DC - SEPT 24th...
September 24: Impeachment March on Washington

Join the Impeachment Contingent at
the Next Huge Anti-War Demonstration

White House - 12 noon

Dear Karen,

The next big step for the Impeachment Movement will be on September 24 when more than 100,000 people will descend on Washington DC to the doors of the White House, and in actions in San Francisco and Los Angeles, to demand that George W. Bush and his administration be held accountable for the ongoing lies, deceptions, death, and torture. It is only "politics" that has been a shield for the Bush administration as it attempts to avoid responsibility for its criminal conduct. But the politics of the country are changing rapidly. Bush's approval rating is at an all time low, the number of people opposing the handling of the war has soared to 70%, and a clear majority believe that the Bush administration should never have invaded Iraq to begin with.

During the past week, practically every newspaper has carried an article admitting that the issue of impeachment is clearly on the political radar. That constitutes a sea change.

It has been the ImpeachBush.org / VoteToImpeach grassroots movement that has been in the vanguard of this effort. In the last two-and-half years the campaign has placed full page newspaper ads in the New York Times, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle and in newspapers in large and small cities. More than a half a million people have voted in the ImpeachBush.org referendum.

The September 24 mass mobilization will see the largest contingent advocating Impeachment since Ramsey Clark initiated the campaign at the January 18, 2003 anti-war demonstration of 500,000 in Washington DC.

People from all over the country are working to make this mobilization a huge success. In addition to volunteers working round-the-clock, many people are making contributions to sustain this momentum. Everyone who had made a contribution should be proud of their sacrifice and this expression of commitment. If you have not made a donation, we ask you to do so now. If you have already made a contribution, we ask you to consider doing so again. Click here for access to the online donation form and the secure server, where you can also get information to write a check.

September 24 will be a wonderful sight. A sea of protestors will surround the White House. The yellow and black impeachment banners and signs will be everywhere. We will be sending out updated logistical announcements about the demonstration in the coming days and weeks. ImpeachBush.org volunteers will be assisting in transportation and housing arrangements. The website will contain this information. A new Impeach Bush flyer for September 24 will be available soon. Be sure that you are signed up to receive the ImpeachBush.org emails and ask your friends and family to join the low-volume list too so that they receive the most updated news about the campaign and the demonstration.

I am pulling my kids out of school, and making a family trip out of this one. Here is the response I received from my kids:

1st grader : But bu$h will arrest us.
3rd grader: and they will spray us with pepper spray.

(They watched the c-span coverage of the inauguration)

18. Try the Hilton Garden Inn on 14th St NW -- Couple blocks from WH
Not luxurious, but nice, clean, and ultra convenient. Only steps from Metro.

8. This is a legitimate question.
Why have HUGE protests that NO ONE sees? The corporate media won't cover it. The heartland will never know the protest took place. If you're not trying to enlighten the "heartland" and every other person who needs enlightenment, why the protests? C-SPAN may cover it, but who, besides political junkies, watches C-SPAN? Is it for the idiot and his cabal? They already know we want their asses out.

Honestly. What's the point?

Don't flame me! I'm just askin'! :scared:

10. i agree with you completely
there is not a doubt in my mind that the small protests that the anti-war committee here in minneapolis does on weekdays every so often are much more useful than back a few months ago when they had 1,500 march through an incredibly liberal neighborhood (uptown) on a sunday afternoon.

19. i never check
i'd say that marching through the most liberal neighborhood in a liberal city on a sunday afternoon, and getting a paragraph and a half on the website of the local NBC news isn't exactly, you know, making a difference.

Shutting down the most major intersection in downtown minneapolis for about 15 minutes during rush hour, well, at least you'll be visible. And maybe people get annoyed by it. But if it happened in every city in the US every day, or even ever week, or maybe even less, the war would be over.

13. Your analysis is absolutely correct . . . however . . .
I'm going to be there.

And it won't be because I want to influence anyone else, because I already know that THAT is a lost cause. This is personal. I hate that murderous son of a bitch (literally) and what he has done to my country. I hate even more how passive our fellow Americans are about all of this. They don't even seem to mind or understand that they are now known universally as torturers, and killers. And they are generally too stupid to even recognize the problems that they have, and have caused.

So I'm going to be there just on the off chance that that piece-of-dog-shit happens to look out the window at the crowd. A crowd of two of us, if necessary, because I know a buddy of mine is going as well. I think I'll use the same sign I used protesting the war in February of 2003. It reads: "How Many Iraqi Babies Will Bush Burn to Steal Iraqi Oil?" on one side and "Complacency Equals Complicity" on the other. It's still a good question and still a damn appropriate judgement.

In other words, I'm disgusted and ashamed to be an American . . . and I want some payback. So that big bag of fermented and condensed septic tank scum with the rotting and bloody hands currently living in our White House may just have to look at my ugly face come September 24.

15. DISAGREE.. each protest gets bigger.. we cover it ourselves...
The MSM will either start covering the news or continue to slide in ratings and their march to obsolescence. We need millions in DC, so please don't throw water on the fire... repubs would love your view... you sound defeated, no point in even protesting! Do you think things won't ever change?.. what will it take! I have been down to see Conyers in person.. I went to the rally on the DSM. The tide is turning.. and I suspect by Sept the mood will be ripe for mass protest, bush approval will be about 35%!

oh.. and BTW.. we have NOT had HUGE protests... a HUGE protest is MILLIONS!!! not a few thousands... and the heartland WILL know if you attend and go home with pictures, don't (mis)underestimate the power of word of mouth.. its slow but strong! AAR, Schultz and other Indy media will cover it, not to mention the thousands of video cameras people will bring!

as for this "Honestly. What's the point?"

WE MUST SHOW WE ARE SERIOUS! your lawmakers will see it and be emboldened to stand up for us.. the activist will be charged to fight on... the world will see it and confirm to them that the good Americans are still here and still fighting... there are MANY reasons! So if you want to stop bush.. BE IN DC

no flame, just a plea for unity and support! We can get you a place to stay if you need, but please consider coming.. we need you.. I need you, my 1 voice isn't loud enough.. help us all!

BE THERE!

16. You are absolutely right. Each time we stand, more stand. I am
sure that is how Vietnam protests grew to millions. There were half a million in DC last year for the women's march. I was there and the sea of people went on as far as the eye could see.

Surely with the coalition of progressive groups, and the planning so far ahead we could easily have over a million. No one will not notice a million people.

My gripe -- why did they pick a Wednesday instead of Saturday or Sunday?
