just got a call from the RNC ...
the woman on the phone asked me to contribute $100 to "keep the party strong" ...

i decided to play along a bit ...

i told her i've always been a strong supporter but i've become very concerned that things have become so partisan in DC ... i told her it's almost like we only have one political party and that i didn't think that was healthy for a democracy ...

she said that it just seemed that way because the Democrats were blocking everything ... huh ???

i told her it seems to me that other than one or two judges and the Bolton nomination, the Democrats have given bush almost everything he wanted ...

then she said that her son just came back from Iraq and that things were going very well over there "because of bush's strong leadership" ...

i told her that i was concerned that the war in Iraq would never end and it was clear we're not making any progress at all ...

she explained it was the liberal media who just aren't telling the American people the truth ... then she said, "it's a good thing we're fighting that war ... Saddam was a Nazi just like Hitler ... we can't just let those people fly airplanes into our buildings and get away with it" ...

i said "but the Iraqis didn't fly planes into our buildings" ...

she explained that she had done "a lot of research on this" and that if we hadn't attacked him "he was just about to" ...

it's hard to argue with that kind of reasoning ... oh, in case you were wondering, i decided not to contribute ...

6. "give ten to the DNC"
unfortunately, that's not going to happen either ...

the Democratic Party and I are growing further and further apart ... i wish it weren't so but it is ...

my contributions will go to my very progressive Democratic Congressman, Jim McGovern and to a few local Dems but that's it ...

i cannot in good conscience continue to support a party that condones bush's occupation in Iraq and has been beating the war drums against Iran ... i'm not a pacifist but i know imperialist aggression when i see it ... and if the Democratic Party chooses to continue funding bush's madness; i choose not to contribute to them ...

2. That's how republicans get elected.
Their constituents are easily fooled.

4. Their victim mentality is amazing
I can't believe thay told you the Democrats are backing everything - congratulations on not giving yourself away by laughing at that point.

What is frustrating is that they are still stating that Iraq was involved with 911. (I did love when Kerry lectured Bush on that not being true in the debates. It seemed Bush may have implied that relationship so often to his pre-selected crowds, he didn't stop to think before saying it in debates.)

7. Hitler
what i found amazing was that after this whole flap with Senator Durbin, RNC operatives felt perfectly free to use the Hitler reference ...

9. But they're comparing Saddam to Hitler not Americans to Hitler
Nevermind that Durbin was saying that specific Ameriacan actions seem more like actions of an evil nation than of America.

They are saying Saddam == Hitler, and by the numbers, if you wanted to be really fussy - Saddam was a less successful killer than Hitler. So by their logic on Durbin, they shouldn't have said it.

10. what amused me most was ...
every time i expressed an opinion, the woman "blessed me" ...

first of all, i'm a flaming atheist ...

and secondly, just how much respect can anyone have for someone's "blessing" when that person advocates the global war being waged by the neo-cons and the RNC ... would Jesus have given this woman any money to "help make the Party stronger" ???

12. We should start giving donations to the Democrats in
honor of the RNC and then they would have to send an acknowledgment to them every time we make a donation. Wouldn't that drive them crazy?

13. Proud to know ya WT2
To add to what you have just said, the other evening CNN was featuring "Our Heroes." In this case it was about four brothers who are shipping out. The scene flashed to an auditorium where the troops were all gathered for a hearty gung-ho speech from an officer, just in case they needed to know what was up. The officer's speech included this:

"...and when you're facing danger in Iraq, just remember the 3,000 Americans who burned in those buildings in New York."

We really don't hear what the poor sods who are buying into this shit hear repeatedly. I'm sure it is reinforced for them a million times a day, either from the Nuzak, the pulpit, or their kitchen tables. They absolutely believe what they are saying, because it is the only message that gets in.

It is good to know where they are coming from, and thus, your post is important. Fighting it is another matter entirely.

Yes, I too have been left stranded by the insiders of the Democratic Party...saying that pisses the people off. But then again, I'm pissed off and the Democratic Party doesn't care, they just offer up another well-funded course of Plan B.

15. What's with these guys. I'm a Dem and they call me at election time.
All the top Republicans call my answering machine at election time. It's undoubtedly pre-recorded messages? But why do they call my phone?
