Boycott "Diebold" ATM machines
Yesterday, while I was withdrawing $60.00 dollars out of the ATM machine I noticed a "diebold" sign on the machine. I immediately hit cancel because I am not willing to pay the crooks $2.00 for using their faulty equipment. If it weren't for diebold we wouldn't have the unelected ape in office right now.

We should all boycott "diebold" ATM'S and put a dent in their cash flow. :argh:

4. My bank uses them, unfortunately (but not exclusively)
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 02:13 PM by KamaAina
The ones at their branches are Diebold but (I think) the ones in stores, shopping centers, etc. aren't. Anyway, I'm not paying the $2 fee. I will go out of my way to avoid paying the fee in any event.

Doesn't most of the fee go to the bank, not Diebold? Good luck geting banks (mostly run by repukes) to stop buying Diebold...

Edit: punctuation;(*&.

5. Don't the banks purchase the machines and the fees go to the bank?

I'm not sure, if this is the case, how not using the banks machines would help? Maybe write letters to the bank and tell them how faulty they are, or at least write to the bank and tell them you would only use their non-diebold machines and that if they continue to support diebold then you will have to take your business to a bank that doesn't support them.

On Edit: forgot some info.

I once worked on a project that tied into the Honor network. They also had some of the fees for transactions. I never looked into to who owned the banking transaction networks.

8. Other businesses can own machines.
There are 3rd party companies that only put up withdrawl machines in places you might need money (McDonalds, 7-11s, casino's). They just tie into the financial networks to process the transaction. 1 fee is their profit for providing the machine, the other is the network fee.

7. They might be leasing the machines
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 02:23 PM by Old_Fart
If not I believe that diebold gets a percentage of the profits.

9. I assume leasing is a possibility.
But I don't think diebold would get fees from that. I would need to research this more.

BTW: I had a small dirty part doing a small project for Diebold once. It was the DES encryption functions that they have on their card encoders (they one that writes the magnetic strip not the one in the ATM that reads it). My biggest surprise is why they had to hire an outside consultant to write that function.
