When that DLC stooge is making fun of him, you KNOW Durbin f'd up big time. This guy had the reputation of being a stubborn straight-shooter, and in the span of a week that reputation has been exploded in a pool of tears, a phalanx of wingnut bitching, and at the feet of Da Son of Da Mare.

That is why there's such a huge reaction, especially around here. Durbin could have been a leader on our side -- Hell, he was -- and now he's back to square one, only with a few self-imposed obstacles to now overcome because of his capitulation. A capitulation that has done nothing, by the way, to silence the wingnuts (see hoffmania.com for a list of Bushista bloggers who continue to look for ways to bring Durbin to even more humiliating heel, because they cannot be appeased and they cannot be satisified). If Durbin didn't understand it before, he goddamn well better now.

Durbin has a LOT of rebuilding to do. Including with me.
