MUST SEE Work of Art: Statue of Limitations by T. Royal
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 05:47 PM by Up2Late
I just stumbles across this Pencil drawing, I don't know when it was actually released. It's available for purchase, in several different forms, at the website below.

Press Release

Reclusive Artist Releases Controversial Political Art 90 Years Early

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (PRNewswire) -- A strong and controversial political image, Statue of Limitations has been released ninety years earlier than anticipated because reclusive artist T. Royal (who prefers to release her work posthumously) says there is just too much at stake to keep this particular image below the radar. "We're fighting and dying ostensibly for the freedoms of other countries, yet here at home we see our own freedoms eroding on a daily basis," Royal said.

Not surprisingly, the release of Statue of Limitations has evoked mixed reactions. While some people identify with the symbolism, others are clearly offended by it. "I don't like what it says about our country," said one art critic. "I'd rather see Lady Liberty standing tall with an Uzi in her hand." The artist welcomes feedback from detractors as well as supporters at <http://www.statueoflimitations.us/>.

Statue of Limitations is the first drawing Royal has publicly released since she ceased exhibiting her work more than a decade ago. The artist cites an overzealous art representative as having almost destroyed her passion for the art itself. "They wanted to commandeer the speed and content of my work," said Royal, who has since kept a very low profile in the art community rather than succumb to the control of the commercial art world. "It has to be a work of passion or it's not art -- it's just a product."

T. Royal, who has no formal art training, has been drawing these astoundingly detailed images in pencil for over twenty years. Most of them have never seen the light of day.

1. Posthumously?
Surely you mean anonymously? I gather from the commentary the artist is still amongst the living. And I genuinely think no one wants his/her work to be released after the artist is dead and unable to appreciate the response.

2. No, she said she 'preferred' her work be released posthumously..
Perhaps she does art for art's sake and not for fame and fortune. There are those artists, of whom, a republican would NEVER believe exists. The critic who thinks Madame Liberty should hold a machine gun is someone I would like to see residing in some other country and NOT America!

8. Thank you
I appreciate the clarification. Lest you suspect my credentials since I have a low post count - I am an artist who is a long-time member of MoveOn and yield to no one in my hatred of the Texas Turd.

4. I didn't write the Press release, I just cut and pasted it
"...And I genuinely think no one wants his/her work to be released after the artist is dead..."

That is exactly what I think the Press Release means, the Artist appears to be sick of the Commercial Art market, but felt this one needed to be released now, instead of 50 to 90 years from now.

6. Hate to tell the freeper types, but the Statue of Liberty is from FRANCE.
I would think they would want to see it torn down and replaced with a statue of Reagan with that Uzi while they watched and enjoyed their Freedom Fries (tm).
