Finally, our poor little flag will be protected..... |
|
Here again most Republicans and, unfortunately, some Dems showed their true motives, albeit inadvertently, when it comes to being in favor of the so-called Flag Desecration Amendment. This is true form for the neocons, for sure. To them, showing patriotism is voting 'yea' and displaying to each other just how patriotic they are as opposed to the Dems and the rest of America by "protecting" a flag that needs no protection. As one representative remarked, "This is a solution in search of a problem." Exactly. But, when most of these chickenhawks did everything in their power to avoid truly showing their patriotism by fighting in a war when they had the chance, they feel this terrible need, born from guilt, to show their "patriotism" some way, any way, and this is it. Maybe it soothes their consciences for the moment, but I believe they will ultimately find their neurosis to be chronic. Just how patriotic can they really be, after all, when they refuse to guarantee that all our brave troops have adequate protection in war and, then, when they are killed or maimed as a result, they want the caskets hidden while they cut funding for veterans....many coming home maimed for life? Much like religion. The neocons are always trying to find ways to 'outmoral' each other to soothe their guilty consciences that comes from being completely immoral in their governance.

Here we are, forced to beat another dead horse when there are so many other things infinitely more important for our reps to be doing.

Bush, Atwater and company used this issue to great effect in '88. Don't be fooled.
