RNC wants me to wish Numb Nuts a Happy Birthday...
by sending money to them.

Dear ______,

Please help the Republican National Committee celebrate a very special birthday on July 6th.
Join Republicans from across the country in wishing President Bush a Happy Birthday by adding your name to the RNC's e-card. As one of our Party's strongest supporters, I know the President will be delighted to receive your warm thoughts and kind words on his birthday.

And if you can, I hope you will take this opportunity to commemorate President Bush's 59th birthday with a gift our entire Party can share. Your secure online gift of $59 or whatever you can afford -- $25, $50 or even $100 -- will help the RNC provide the resources needed to fully enact the President's agenda and keep our Party moving forward.

I look forward to adding your name to the RNC's Birthday e-card to President Bush. And thank you for your continued support of our President, Party and cause.

Best Wishes,
Ken Mehlman
RNC Chairman

P.S. In order for your name to be included on the RNC's birthday e-card to President Bush, I need to hear from you by June 30th . Please click here to sign President Bush's birthday card and make a secure online gift our entire Party can share. Thank you.

I tried to send a heartfelt Happy Birthday to Shrub, without a donation, and this is what I got:

The following error(s) occurred:

Please fill in your first name.
Please fill in your last name.
Please fill in your street address.
Please fill in your city.
Please fill in your state.
Please fill in your zip code.
Please fill in your employer.
Please fill in your occupation.
Please select a donation type.
Please select your credit card type.
Please fill in your credit card number.
Please fill in your credit card expiration month.
Please fill in your credit card expiration year.
Please fill in/select a donation amount.
Please verify all required info by clicking the checkboxes.

So, I guess the President won't be receiving my "warm thoughts and kind words on his birthday". I am devastated.

Oh well, no hard feelings.

5. You know, that's really not a bad idea. Is that against the law or
against plain principles? I'm thinking of the families, of course. I wouldn't want to upset them any more than they already are.

10. True... true...
But the names of the dead are public record, so there's no law against it.

And, if one didn't "sign" the card, but typed it... then it wouldn't be like anyone was morally perpetrating a fraud.

This is a good idea.

9. And mine's on the 8th....Kinda spoils it for me just a little
I think it's amusing that the RNC is using his birthday as a fundraiser, though. I've never seen that done before.

I'll raise a glass to his ultimate unseating that week though.

6. Here Is An Idea
Donate the money to your favorite liberal cause in Dubya's name, making sure they will send him an acknowledgment.

I am trying to decide on one that is the most worthy and that he likes the least:

* Human Rights Campaign (GLBT Issues)
* Amnesty International
* A reproductive rights group (Planned Parenthood, NOW, NARAL, etc)
* An environmental organization (Sierra Club, NRDC, etc)
* ACLU
* MoveOn.org
* Democratic National Committee (bit of irony here)

But if you give to a tax deductible charity in some one else's name, I believe you still get the write off

15. Hey, I thought it was the thought that counts!
All this materialistic asking for money. Isn't it enough that we're gonna offer a few prayers on our knees for the guy? I'll bet Jesus wouldn't have asked for cold hard cash.

18. Donate for George!
I think the donations are a great idea. It could be to the DNC or to your favorite congressional candidate for 2006. Either is political. I think I'm going to donate to the DNC and include maybe a little note that says, "Give 'em hell, Howard!" in honor of shrub's birthday. Yep...that's the ticket.
