This will be in the interest of the country, of course.
I believe the reason why Rove has ordered everyone to "continue the fight" to get Bolton an up or down vote is to set the stage for just such a thing.
This way Bush can save face while, at the same time, orchestrate an attack on the Democrats for "Borking" a "good, qualified man".
If Bolton refuses to fall on the sword to let Bush off the hook, Rove will let Bolton know in no uncertain terms that he will be on his shit list.
In the meantime I believe they are now looking for someone just as wild-eyed and obnoxious as Bolton to begin the process again.

5. Gracious???
I'd sure like to see evidence of anything this man has done that could be considered gracious, especially in the political arena.

2. Bolton is the worst
for that job, period.

I don't have as much faith as you. My money is on Bush giving him a recess appointment.

10. That's what I figured at first. But I believe that has been effectively
"preempted" by those saying that a recess appointment would make Bush look weak. That's all the monkey needs to hear not to do it. But, who knows? You might be right.

6. I have a feeling that Bolton is key at UN according to * Plan.
For the Iran invasion, they need him there, that is why they are pushing so hard...I feel that had he been already comfirmed, we would now be in Iran. Just a feeling I have. :hide:

11. I do agree with the "grand plan" idea, like Wolfie at the World Bank...
but I believe they are now carefully weighing the route of least damage: Political fallout from a recess appointment vs finding another Bolton.
What about B-1 Bob Dornan? He has no apparent sense of right and wrong and, like Bolton, is the kind of guy that even his mother crosses the street to avoid. Perfectly qualified.

7. I doubt it...
I'd say they either push the "Nuclear Option" on this instead of the judges, or Bush makes a recess apointment.

But then again you never know. He did finnaly give in on the S.S. private account thing.

12. With the extreme arrogance of bush, I think he will do everything he can
do get "his man" in office. Recess appointment is very likely imo.

13. I doubt the man has ever done anything "gracious"
in his life.

But, he could withdraw. He should if they head-counts being taken even as we speak show that an up-or-down vote would not install him. The Republicans do not want a defeat of this magnitude right now.

But, "gracious"? I'd pay to see that...

14. My money is on Recess Appointment
Bolton's too critical to the instigation of the Iran War to allow him to gracefully fade away.
