Ted Kennedy to Rummy: "Isn’t it time for you to resign?"
Rumsfeld engaged in contentious exchanges with committee Democrats.

“Isn’t it time for you to resign?” Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., asked the defense secretary, citing what he called “gross errors and mistakes” in the U.S. military campaign in Iraq.

“I’ve offered my resignation to the president twice,” Rumsfeld shot back, saying that President Bush had decided not to accept it. “That’s his call,” he said.

“Those who say we are losing this war are wrong," he added. "We are not.”

20. It's a shame that he is not the one with the bum ticker
Horrible to say, but the stress surely would have sent him over the edge by now. Tried to resign twice? Get the feeling that blivet** couldn't find anyone else to take the job and that's why Rummy the Dummy is still there? Shades of Homeland Security, couldn't find anyone to take that job either, not without a past anyway.

For the same reason that the bigger the losses, the more this shows
we are "winning."

21. sadly
it may be because the repugs, with chests puffed out in pride at having pulled so much over the eyes of the public, have gotten cocky... and stupid.

i'm tired of clinging to tid bits of good news. we need something that will bring this teflon coated administration to its knees and beg for forgiveness.

24. I think it could..
... last that is.

I think we've crossed the tipping point. I think Dems realize that they will not be instantly vaporized by a space ray if they speak up.

I think the situation in Iraq has become so untenable, that the spin can no longer counter the reality. 60% of Americans think it is a mistake. That's really a big number.

I not only hope it will last, I actually beleive it will. It's coming a few months later than I thought, but the fact is that Bush** and his band of merry fuckups have lost the confidence, trust and imagination of the American public.

Now we (Dems) can step in with a better plan and take over the reins.

26. I wonder what would happen
if the dems faught like they were republicans from now until 2006. I'd say, we'd take back the house and senate.

30. And i'd....
... agree with you :) It's is within the realm of possibility, I really believe. The "war" coupled with the very rel possibility of yet another impending recession - how much more can Americans take?

can back it up with data, not rhetoric.

9. Try again, dimwit!
“I’ve offered my resignation to the president twice,” Rumsfeld shot back, saying that President Bush had decided not to accept it. “That’s his call,” he said.

Maybe the third time would be a charm. Heh.

32. Bush doesn't want any new people around,
as they would get hep to all his little secrets. It's sooooooo obvious how incompetant rumy is. Hopefully, if the soldiers start again asking for his resignation, something can be done. Although, it's doubtfull.

15. Someone once had a link to a website where a guy
had worked out all these hand gestures that Rummy uses and labeled them to match the messages he's trying to convey. It was a hoot. Does anyone remember that? I didn't book mark it but it would be a good reference now.

31. This has hit the Canadian news, they showed a clip of
Kennedy saying Rumsfeld should resign and then Rumsfeld's response. It is very rare that clips from Congress are shown on our news so it is a recognition that this is big news.
