With *'s Poll numbers in the Toilet, Is it TOO Early for 2006 Campaigning? |
|
I mean,
What if some of the lesser known (or even the well known) Democrats, who will have to run for Re-election in 2006, started making some 2006 Campaign appearances during these times when * is SOOOO unpopular?
Would it help or hurt?
Would they even do it?

3. I'm not sure about years past, but last time, the Rethugs kept... |

...the House and Senate in session up until about a month before the Election.
I think this was a deliberate ploy to give "the Minority," who always get less press and camera time while in session, less time to work on "getting out their message."
That's only a few reasons I think starting Now might be a good thing.

If we start campaigning too early it will turn people off. Now is the time to watch carefully and strategize. Timing is everything. Just my two cents.

5. Every vulnerable House Republican should be gotten on the record |
|
Did Saddam have anything to do with 9-11? Did you ever suggest that he did? Are you for taking away time-and-a-half overtime for people who make more than $22.5K a year? Are you pro-torture? Are you pro-war? Should the rich be getting more tax cuts? Do you believe in evolution? Is global warming real? Should school lunches be cut to offset tax breaks for the rich? Should companies who use foreign tax havens get government contracts? Was it right for Junior to stall the creation of the Homeland Security Department until he could force 170,000 workers out of their union protections? Do we unfairly subsidize pharmaceutical companies? Shouldn't we be doing something about mad cow disease? Why do you call easing environmental regulations "clean air"? Why is the increasing of logging called "healthy forests"?
They should be pinned down hard on the fearmongering of false intelligence and false connection between Saddam and 9-11. Get them on the record about the greedy and reckless tax cuts. Hammer them hard and continually, and give them nicknames like "torture guy" or "freeloader" or "moocher" and work them hard for the next year and five months. Find and support GOOD candidates for every seat that's possible, and aggressively defend any Dems who are vulnerable. Fight the California redistricting with every fiber of one's being, and contest the Texas redistricting in court; if they used DeLay's illegal funding shell game to give Texas Republicans a huge advantage, then throw the whole thing back to the way it was.
More than anything, we must learn that campaigning is INCESSANT now. Every legal tool and dispute should be brought, and just waiting for the gentlemanly occasional spikes of the actual elections is a passe way of looking at it.

7. I'm going to a campaign kickoff tomorrow |

for a state Assembly seat. The candidates have already had several house parties and a candidate forums. This is a safe Democratic district so the June 2006 primaries will decide who gets the seat.
I know the Governor's race is in full swing. Angelides has had many campaign events and it looks like Arnie is in full campaign mode. I'm not on the other Dem candidates for Governor email lists, yet. I'm sure they'll find me all too soon. I know there have been fundraisers and some speaking engagements for a Dem challenger to a Repub seat that is somewhat near me. :eyes: My understanding is that most are concentrating on fundraising, getting endorsements, and organizing campaigns now. The more visible speaking tours and getting more volunteers probably begins in the fall and is in full swing in the new year.
