Email in response to my stepfather's question
Email from my stepfather:
"What do Democrats talk about? I never hear anything on radio about their convictions-just underground stuff from our liberal kin."

My response:
"Currently we talk about refining our platform for midterm elections. Our platform has never changed, we just have not done a good time getting it out there. We believe in equal rights for everyone, not just white Christian rich straight people. We are pro-choice, and anti-war when possible. We are for supporting our families with basic and decent government, that means all families, not just the rich white ones with a mother and a father. We stand for single mothers working two jobs to get by, we are for health care for everyone, not just the wealthy. We are for re-strengthening the middle class, by taxing the wealthy at the same level as the middle and lower classes. We stand for and talk about cleaning the environment and strengthening anti-pollution laws, not allowing rich corporations to pollute at well to line their own pockets. We talk about accountability for policy makers. If you call for a war, make sure you are justified in that call. We are for condemning those policy makers that lie to the American public to start unnecessary wars that kill our young men and women.

There is no underground stuff from my liberal kin. We have forums where we discuss and challenge. And we allow each other to challenge us, we do not toe the party line if it is against our beliefs. We are Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, Buddhists, and all religions under the sun. We do not condemn each other for our different beliefs but hold hands with those people and celebrate our differences. We are Patriots who are fighting to regain the American that we love from the people that are hell bent on sending us to our doom.

We talk about replacing the world’s negative image of Americans, with an image that we are again good and decent people, who care about them and are willing to help them succeed, not invade them and starve their children and old people.

We talk about upholding people’s right to own property and to live their peacefully, not snatch it from them and hand it to developers to make money off of.

If you have any more questions about what Democrats talk about, I would be happy to go further."

Did I miss anything? Wow, I did not know that I had that in me!

1. very well done
If he asks why you don't hear about this on the news, point out the fact that the news channels are owned and run by conservatives-show him "OutFoxed" as an example.

3. Great response...
but I wonder if you think single moms should have to work 2 jobs to get by -- not clear in your wording. Don't get me wrong, Republicans would probably like it since women (in their minds) should be punished for being single moms.

Good job otherwise and I can't add anything!

5. Oh, absolutely not...

They should be able to support their children on one income. I am a huge proponent of increasing the minimum wage and decreasing the overwhelming cost of child care. I was a welfare social worker for a number of years, and saw the struggles of women trying to raise children alone.

I saw a Super Walmart come in, promise some of my women jobs that would allow them to work nights so that they had childcare with relatives, and then after two weeks tell these women that they had to work swing shifts, changing every few weeks. That was the start of my distaste for Walmart. Now my distaste has turned to something stronger. I have not shopped in a Walmart/Sams in over a year, and will not even use the parking lot to turn around in.

I wrote that in a moment of political outrage! haha I will re-read my emails and make adjustments next time.

(editted to add the last line)

4. You might want to rephrase this:
" We stand for single mothers working two jobs to get by."

Personally, I think single mothers already have two jobs when they're working outside the home, two full time jobs. Working two full jobs to get by is obscene, and everyone suffers from it.

How about "We stand for single mothers being able to get by with one job instead of two or three?"
