I have a question from Kerry supporters: what is the deal with Kerry's war
record? I thought it was one of this strengths then I hear all this criticism on C-Span this morning.
I am still ABB, I generally like ALL our candidates (except for Lieberman) but I DON'T like this negativity about his military record. What gives? What do the RW have against his military record? How can you convert a strength into a negative like this?

Thanks.

1. he protested the war when he came back
they didn't like that and many are still upset about it. they think we would have "won" if not for him.

9. Who is "they"?
Vietnam was not a winnable war. Kerry had every right to protest the war...he was there and you can bet he still has nightmares. While Kerry was dodging bullets Georgie was doing what exactly?

3. Veterans were calling in
and really harsh on Kerry.

This does not sound real good.

Some of the calls were from the South.

4. the GOP has to try to neutralize his advantage there
they can't just let him use his heroic war record, they have to sully it up, otherwise they have no chance. For people who WANT to vote for Bush, but for whom Kerry's heroism might prevent them from doing it, these smears gives these people something to hang onto.

Same with the medals story. For people who WANT to see Kerry as pro-war, but for whom Kerry's anti-Vietnam activism might make them doubt that, the medals story sullies his antiwar background.

You can do this trick with any of Kerry's advantages.

6. You can't be serious.
You support Clark and you accuse another candidate of doing whatever he sees a benefit to himself? Clark's entire campaign is nothing more then an extension of the days polls. Because he wants to be president , Clark became a 'Democrat' his beliefs. His rhetoric did a 180 when the Republicans turned him away.

7. Kerry is disingenuous & likes to play dirty politics
Now Clark is An Officer & a gentleman. Kerry should learn from him.

8. Kerry is a liar and an opportunist
While Kerry is telling his Northern audiences that he is against the war in Iraq, he is telling his Southern audiences that he is all for it.

11. Clark was DRAFTED!
He didn't just wake up one day and say, "Gee, I'm bored, I think I'll run for President!" :eyes:

13. That draft was carefully orchestrated

He didn't just wake up one day and say, "Gee, were did those people come from, and why do they want me to run for President? That idea never crossed my mind, but well, golly, I guess maybe I should run for president if they're going to insist!"
