The Republicans are trying to silence the Democrats into submission!
This is why there is this carefully orchestrated attack on our values from the likes of Rep. Hostettler, who accused the Democrats of Christian bashing, and Rove and Mehlman accusing Democrats of coddling terrorists.

They want to frighten and coerce us into doing a Durbin-style apology for the gulag characterization of the Gitmo concentration camp. If it looks like Dachau, it is Dachau!

I remind each and everyone of you of the words of Barry Goldwater:

Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

Bush is the enemy of liberty! Bush has subverted the Bill of Rights and, with the help of his puppets in Congress, he has done away with the checks and balances, allowing the power of the President to grow to imperial levels. Bush has lied to Congress and the American people about Iraq in order to pursue a personal Bush family settling of scores with Saddam, and to control the oil in the region.

There is no point in being nice to anyone that is on Bush's side!

2. DLC'ers and demos who preach moderation for democrats
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 03:54 AM by mazzarro
need to pay attention to the quotation of Barry Goldwater: "... And moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." We should quit thinking that we can reason with the re-thugs - politicians as well as the rank and file. Why do the demos always end up being the ones who more apt to back down and seek compromise all the time? Why do demos end up being the ones to stand down from their principles? Demos do this all the time in order to seek acceptance from the ever elusive moderates and independents - DAMN IT! ITS ABOUT TIME DEMOS GREW MIGHTY BIG COJONES!

10. The DLC strategy of enabling Bush is now totally discredited
Al From is our Neville Chamberlain. After years of saying we could make inroads by appeasing Bush, we can all see now the sort of vile scum the Republicans turned out to be.

3. very true ...
As I reflect over the political situation, I can only conclude that our backbenching sucks. We should take lessons on "thorn in the side" from Newt and his pirates. They did know how to put the heat on and keep it on.

4. Well, it used to work for them
Democrats seem to be getting the message that they need to fight back, loudly and often. The Republican noise machine hasn't been as successful in muffling the opposition lately.

5. I agree.
Divide and conquer.

There is no point in being nice to anyone that is on Bush's side... we are the ones in the crosshairs.

Great post.

8. Excellent analysis. Nominated.
I'm not so crazy about the Goldwater quote (esp. since it's been misused), though I do agree that things are getting dire and likely to get worse.

It's times like this that I reflect on Hillary's excellent summation of the type of people we're dealing with:

Senator Clinton Assails Bush and G.O.P. at Campaign Fund-Raiser

By PATRICK D. HEALY
Published: June 6, 2005

"There has never been an administration, I don't believe in our history, more intent upon consolidating and abusing power to further their own agenda," Mrs. Clinton told the audience at a "Women for Hillary" gathering in Midtown Manhattan this morning.

"I know it's frustrating for many of you; it's frustrating for me: Why can't the Democrats do more to stop them?" she continued to growing applause and cheers. "I can tell you this: It's very hard to stop people who have no shame about what they're doing. It is very hard to tell people that they are making decisions that will undermine our checks and balances and constitutional system of government who don't care. It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth."

Mrs. Clinton described Republican leaders as messianic in their beliefs, willing to manipulate facts and even "destroy" the Senate to gain political advantage over the Democratic minority. She also labeled the House of Representatives as "a dictatorship of the Republican leadership," where individual members are all but required to vote in lock-step with the majority's agenda.
