Who Are The "Insurgents?"
Someone help me here. By "insurgents," what is meant? Just how many are from outside of Iraq and how many are Iraqi nationals trying to kick the US out???

1. In the case of Iraq, they were originally "Freedom Fighters"
I say Freedom Fighters because they were fighting an oppressor, the US, for their own freedom, not the one bu$h 7 cheney claim they want to give them.
Now it is all those sympathetic and aiding the original group trying to rid Iraq of the great oppressor.

Insurgents is used to incite the idea that these people are coming into Iraq from other countries and we need to protect Iraq from them.

2. My theory is
that most are Iraqis trying to get us to leave, that some are sympathizers from nearby countries who want to help, that some are "contractors", and that some are CIA funded. When they talk about insurgents coming in from elsewhere, I only suspect they're trying to demonize our next targets.

3. They call themselves
the Resistance - evoking the Resistance of patriotic French against Vichy and the Nazi occupation. This is a Russian site which follows their propaganda claims:

4. Even the Iraqis aren't sure
I've been reading a few blogs by Iraqis this morning. Baghdad Burning is particularly well written.

River's May 29 entry says: "The civilian bombings in Iraq are being done by certain extremists, fanatics or militias." Then read the part about the "rumor" in her May 18 entry. It seems there are numerous forces at work, and they each have different motives.

Reading through her archives has brought me to tears. This is some freedom we've brought Iraq. And unfortunately, like us, they have only the Internet to get the truth out.

5. by "insurgent" they mean
anyone who will prolong the war so that the corporations can keep stealing. I wouldn't doubt or be surprised if it was a 'trouble maker' independent branch of some mil org that get's insider info from us and gives 'us' distractions & so-called resons to be there.

believe me, most of the guys they arrest at the checkpoints are young guys not much older than our troops, guys who most of the time are just trying to get out of that shit hole.
