FIRE KARL ROVE - A Petition from Senator Kerry to bush
Spread this near and far. Lets continue to let the White House know how fucking flacid their mandate is.

3. There is a letter to the Senate Intellligence Comm
KerryGoddess posted that hearings would go before the Senate Intelligence Committee. The Rules of that committee state:

http://intelligence.senate.gov/rules%20of%20procedure.h...

Rule 6. Investigations
No investigation shall be initiated by the Committee unless at least five members of the Committee have specifically requested the Chairman or the Vice Chairman to authorize such an investigation. Authorized investigations may be conducted by members of the Committee and/or designated Committee staff members.

The members of the Committee, from whom five sigs are needed are:

REPUBLICANS
Pat Roberts, Kansas Chairman
Orrin G. Hatch, Utah
Mike Dewine, Ohio
Christopher S. Bond, Missouri
Trent Lott, Mississippi
Olympia J. Snowe, Maine
Chuck Hagel, Nebraska
Saxby Chambliss, Georgia

DEMOCRATS
John D. Rockefeller IV West Virginia, Vice Chairman
Carl Levin, Michigan
Dianne Feinstein, California
Ron Wyden, Oregon
Evan Bayh, Indiana
Barbara A. Mikulski, Maryland
Jon S. Corzine, New Jersey

Ex Officio Members
Bill Frist, Tennessee
Harry Reid, Nevada
John Warner, Virginia

I think Kerry has 4 sigs to get hearings. Needs one more. Unknown as to who has and has not signed yet, but I can make an educated guess.

What do you think? Should the Senate Intel Comm hold hearings on the DSM? Or should Kerry stop this for a mere press conference or floor speech?

13. Who knows?
Select Committees, and especially Select Committees where most of the meeting sare closed to the public are, ah, closed to comments.

This is where the issue should go. After all, the Select Intel Comm issued a report about the pre-war intel or lack thereof. The DSM deals with that. The DSM talks about the case for war being weak. Then why did we go, was the case for going to war pre-determined? And so forth.

KerryGoddess reports that they need one more sig. Again, Kerry is not on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. He can send a letter, push for sigs and then ......

16. He should do both. This needs to be in the public discourse.
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 02:14 PM by Dr Fate
No one will watch the hearings unless the Top DEMs go on TV and talk about the issue.

17. Chicken or the egg
Get the letter signed.

Get a hearing scheduled. Then tell the media that there is a hearing and that witnesses with some presumed knowledge of the events mentioned in the DMS will appear, under oath. (Can we put the Brits under oath? Can we compel them to testify in the US?)

Publicize the hell out of it. Do what it takes to tie this into the timeline of Iraq and what went wrong.

I do not know if this hearing will happen or not. (As far as I know, they are waiting on 1 more sig, as KerryGoddess reported in another thread.) I hope they get it. If not, Plan B, which would be Dems only hearings without subpoena power. (Much less desirable.)

23. As will I, with the proverbial 'baited breath'
The DSM are very powerful. A real hearing would make them more well known and answer a lot of questions. (And pose more.) I want to see that as badly as anyone else.

But there are obstacles. It's not that easy to just go in and demand a hearing. The Rethugs can ignore you. Other Dems can refuse to participate because they don't see the facts they way you do. And so many other things. (It's never easy to get anything done in DC. Why shoudl this be any different.)

Keep pushing! Outside pressure is often the only way things ever get pushed enough to actually get done. I will also.

Yeah? Is Iraq, DSM, Torture forgotten?

Stay on message - forget Rove and their red hot poker antics.

With an approval rating of 42% - we should be going after the big fish, not his minnows.

He gave us the head of BushCo on a silver platter. See DNC's website. This is what Dem leaders should be repeating over and over again:

Rove is right: there are differences.
http://www.democrats.org/blog/comment/00012258.html

eta: Here's one talking point for your viewing pleasure:

Democrats
Believe that we should be honest with our troops about the reasons we go to war, give them everything they need to be safe, and make sure we go in with an exit plan.

Republicans
Manipulate intelligence to trump up reasons to go to war, don't give our troops the support they need, constantly mislead the public about the direction the war is going, and fail to make an exit plan. And turn Iraq into the ultimate terrorist training ground.

but one does not exclude the other one.

Dean has asked Bush to refute Rove. Was he wrong?

20. I'd rather our people just fired back instead of whining
"Mr. Rove has been called, rightfully, Bush's Brain. He has never been elected to anything, but runs the country, and makes all sorts of decisions and pronouncements from his safe space, protected by a media that he runs with an iron fist. If he wants to fight, have him come out from his hiding place and face the music. Otherwise he's just another Republican coward".
