FORGET ROVE !
Well, this is one of those times that I’m really, really happy to be wrong. We knew something was going to break. They are in big trouble, The Downing street memo, Bolton, Social Security , THE WAR. I was waiting for the Bush tribe's response, the other shoe to drop, another 911. I have to admit that I was relieved when they chose to use Mr Rove as the terror alert du jour.

If anyone thinks the Rove’s comments were in the least bit accidental they are nuts. What better way to rally his troops but by opening the door to give him the space and air time to slither in and spew his propaganda?

Its called change the subject and distract in the hopes of improving ever falling poll rating in regards to just about anything that they have touched. He’ll manage to revitalize some of his sheep, that’s inevitable. But, we need to use his premeditated media attention to OUR OWN benefit.

REPEATING HIS COMMENTS does nothing more then feed right into his plan. Its giving him air time for the GRAND DISTRACTION. He doesn't CARE if he's the "bad guy", especially to those of us that think he's scum to begin with!

Each of our Democratic leaders responses have been good but they need to be taken to the next level. The republicans are using Rove and his ranting to brainwash the public with "Liberals = weak on terror...anti American (notice how they slide the PARTIAL Durbin quote in) and anti our soldiers. They are attempting to make us the enemy. We need to respond with a united message. A reminder that "Republicans = LIES,Corporate greed and death" (for starters). CHOOSE ONE AND POUND IT.

Every speech demanding an apology needs to also make use of the stage created and remind the American people of where we are in reality, something Mr Rove is attempting to distract them from seeing.

With his premeditated comments he had given us an opportunity to do more then react defensively, its a golden opportunity to turn it back on him and wave the Downing Street memo and other pieces of their poison in front of the American people.

1. I agree
Who cares what that cretin says.

We need to nail him for what he's done (and continues to do) to our country.

2. Don't be distracted, but don't ignore the comments either.
This, IMO, is a coordinated effort by Rove and the republicans, and it's not going to stop here. So we can't just ignore it. But don't get riled up about his attacks on liberals. That's want he wants us to do in order to divert attention from the failed policies of the Bush administration.

DON'T focus on this sort of thing:

"Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

Instead focus on this:

"Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war."

Use Rove's own comments as the basis for discussing how the Bush adminstration turned their attention away from the actual attackers to rush to war against Iraq, how the Bush administration has mismanaged and failed to adequately prepare for our military action in the middle east, etc. Use the attention Rove brings with his statements to shine a spotlight on the administrations failings.

Here's a great example...

3. Only a slight disagreement
with your post....

true. Absolutely true.....the intent of Rove's comments were/are to change the subject.
And I agree entirely that we will need (eventually) to get back on message re:Downing Street Minutes, War Casualties, Bolton, Social Security etc....

BUT

Unanswered charges are perceived as TRUTH. We need to answer and shoot down the charges as well as get the headlines back onto the proper subject(s). We've got to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time because if we don't we'll allow these evil F***s to lead us around by the nose.

Good, thoughtful post btw. :hi:

5. it's a great opportunity, with the right framing
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 12:44 PM by lwfern
This is the time to bring up Bush's comments about not caring where bin laden was, to bring up invading the wrong country, reacting to 9/11 by cutting health benefits to those affected by it, using it to line the pockets of their business buddies and contributors.

Nothing they did was "tough" on terror. They were soft on the terrorists, using the attack as nothing more than a cover for their next nation-building exercise.

GO WHERE THE MEDIA IS. ATTACK.

but for God's sake, frame it right.
