McAuliffe nails Bush, defends Moore
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 01:47 PM by Rowdyboy
on CNN. Wolf asks about Moore's comments calling * a deserter? McAuliffe "He never should have called him a deserter. To desert, you have to show up. AWOL is more accurate" and then described Bush's absence from guard meetings in Alabama.

About time someone pointed it out.

3. Yes!
The longer this stays in the public eye the better. Thank you Michael Moore and General Clark for getting this out in the open.

12. To be fair, I don't think this is Kerry OR Clark's job
to be rolling this out on their own. This is Terry's job, and he's finally done something right.

And Kerry is, well a follower.

27. It's their job to help the party win the election.
Clark's response helped to that end. Kerry's helped Bush. There lies the great difference.

5. But really Bush may have been a Deserter
When we are at war if gone for over a year with out leave from your post even as a reservist you may be a deserter.

Where was he during the campaign in Georgia, or in 2K with this bravado?

Better late then never I suppose.

14. His hair became displaced and he forgot his lines
Gillespie said something about "these absurd charges" (or words to that effect) though. You could just tell his was going to be spreading santorum all over the place because Terry had said something untoward about chimpy.

23. Wolf was trying to start a "issue"
He asked if it bothered the Democrats that Bush was called a deserter. When he did not get the answer from Terry, he asked again...with a surprising tone. Terry answered him with the above.

Blitzer did not do us any favors. He wanted an issue started. Jerk.

24. I don't follow you.
Of coarse I didn't see it, but it sounds to me that Wolf expected the typical pansy answer from Terry and was surprised when Terry didn't say, "That was long ago and the President is our fearless, heroic, leader. I'm sure he served honorably."

Wolf was trying to discredit those who make the accusation as lunatics. It doesn't sound like it hurt us, Wolf won't ask the question again I'm sure.

As nice as it would have been, that debate wasn't the time or place. When either Kerry or Clark wins the nomination and debates Flightsuit on nat'l TV, THEN it will be the best time to pursue it. Plus it still will be fresh come Nov.

Edit for typo.

16. That was a great moment for McAuliffe!
My respect for him has increased dramatically. I sincerely hope that Clark keeps up defending Moore's right of free speech, and then through over-exposure to the issue * is forced to release his military records!

19. Too bad the other Dems didn't help
Kerry & Lieberman used it to diss Clark.

If they didnt want to take on this issue, fine, but don't use it against Clark, who has helped the Dems on this issue.

McAuliffe is usually useless, but I'm very pleased by his performance on Teddy Ruxpin this morning.

I'm sick of the Dem on Dem attacks here on DU btw.

Not only is he ahead of all the Democrats ( and Clark too ;) ) he is polling ahead of Bush.

I don't expect him to endorse anyone else.

Probably just temporary, though, until Dean is out of the race. Then back to his meek, Daschle-like, play nice and don't make waves ways.
