WH says Rove was talking about MoveOn and Michael Moore
as if that mitigates it.

It does, at the least, show that they are starting to panic.

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N24197498.htm

WASHINGTON, June 24 (Reuters) - Responding to criticism of remarks made by Karl Rove, the White House on Friday said the president's political strategist was attacking a liberal organization and filmmaker Michael Moore when he said liberals responded weakly to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Democrats including New York Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer have lashed out at Rove, the deputy white House chief of staff, in press releases, at news conferences and in comments on the Senate floor.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada called on Rove to retract the comments or resign.

< snip >

"It's just puzzling why Democratic leaders are trying to defend the views of people like Michael Moore and organizations like Moveon.org that took a very different view after the attacks of September 11," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters.

7. Bullshit!
He said "liberals," which includes me, my dad who fought in Korea, five of my cousins who fought in Vietnam, my grandfather who fought in WWI, most of my friends and extended family, the most decent people I've known in my life...

KKKarl Rove, the one who never did anything for his country other than split it apart with his paritsan bullshit and try his hardest to kill democracy, can just fuck off!

Social Security football in the tank, and so the administration brings out 9/11, the flag, and Michael Moore. These people are obsessive and I'm sick of listening to them.

Washington=the real Jerry Springer show.

Anybody here remember all of the Missing W's off of typewriters
and computer keyboards. Then the rumor went on with the destruction of White House property and the needed investigations into vandalism. There was the follow up of, "Thank God the adults are here".

This administration started with BS and they will go out of office with BS. In my opinion the sooner the better!

A ridiculous waste of taxpayer's money of course.

Wonder why they haven't investigated what happened to the $8BB lost in Iraq? Or Bush's lies to occupy Iraq Or_______.

when 9/11 happened? Also, Michael Moore's claim to fame at the time didn't have anything to do with 9/11.

12. Would KKKarl please shut up:
Does Rove think we're stupid or something?

Looking back, through the magic of the internet, do I see not one instance of Moveon or Michael Moore seeking "compassion for those who attacked us".

In fact, Moveon specifically focused on going after those responsible but also taking steps to ensure steps to protect citizens everywhere.'

Moveon:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010925191427/http://www.moveon.org/
http://web.archive.org/web/20010925191755/www.moveon.org/justice/index.html

Michael Moore:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010916221802/http://www.michaelmoore.com/
http://web.archive.org/web/20010916221802/http://www.michaelmoore.com/

You mean they were actually concerned about human lives (not just of Americans but worldwide?) and ending violence?

As opposed to, oh let's use Newsmax as an example. This is from the 12th, and they're already beating the drums for war:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010912003716/http://www.newsmax.com/

Oh, and I love this gem: The Weekly Standard already had their issue entitled "The War Presidency" ready to go on the 12th. Hmm, planned in advance much?
http://web.archive.org/web/20010914223457/http://www.weeklystandard.com/

So please KKKarl; Moveon and Michael Moore have done more for democracy then you could ever dream of.

23. McClellan is a spin-meister -- he is paid to do exactly this
Come on, people. Wake up. This is reality calling. What do you think the Press Secretary's role IS, if not this? Of course he lies. Our job is to keep the questions coming, and to show their contradictions. It is not to force them to admit anything, because they WON'T.

This administration is complicit in war crimes if the DSM is true. I would strongly suggest that this makes their statements quite self-serving at this point.

21. The Rovian Frame
Democrats = Weakness

The grass roots should work diligently to counter this start writing LTE's and a massive letter writing campaign. This has got to come from the Base and the public. Rove is a master at this BS and until "we the people" start fighting back I'm afraid we won't have much of a chance in '04 and '08.

22. People should be reminded that, if not for liberals, blacks would be
only 3/5ths of a vote, and women wouldn't be any at all.

AND you wouldn't be able to practice your religion at all - unless it was the state-sanctioned brand . . .

27. As a republic, we did permit theocratic states
Whether we still do, or not, is another question. Throwing the issue to the states would likely result in 95% of them adopting so-called Christian dogma.

The real question, I think, is whether this country can survive part-secular and part part-theocratic.

28. Oh, like that makes it okay.
Bullshit! You, rover, insult Michael Moore and Moveon.org ..you insult me!

And a perk of this vile gutterot spewing from hitler's horns is that New Yorkers are getting to wax poetic!

"As a New Yorker, I find this the equivalent of blood libel. (You know, the lie that the Jews used Christian babies blood for matzoh). No one asked what party 343 firemen belonged to when they died, or the 34 policemen. No one asked what party nine members of the 69th Regiment, New York City's own infantry regiment with a lineage going back to WW I, were when they were killed in Iraq, two of whom were immigrants, one a Pakistani muslim. No one asked and no one cared.

To say that New Yorkers, who are 5-1 Democrats, are shirking from the service of their country is an insult to them and their service. No one asked for party enrollment when they took their oath and it is wrong to suggest that it matters now. Many New Yorkers, and Californians as well, have died in the service of their country in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Let me explain something birdman: I smelled the dead in my windows for a week after 9/11. While you sat back and worried about some Sikh blowing up your mall, every time I took a breath, burning flesh and paper filled my nose. Every day, for a year, I opened the paper to read about yet another funeral. On nice, sunny days, I get reminded of 9/11.

So don't fucking lecture me about defending the people who protect my city. You don't drive by the firehouse memorials on every goddamn firehouse in the city. You don't see the stories about fucked up families left behind. You live in a fantasy world where big strong men kill the brown people and make you feel like a man. We know what they did for us far better than you ever will, no matter how much you pretend to understand. You don't. And you never will and you never want to. <...>

Not that you care. You sit in your home and cheer the confused teenagers in Iraq dying for your ideas and you don't lift a finger to help them. You don't volunteer, do you? Not at the local VA, or military hospital. Nope. You just sit there, a big old coward, cheering on children as they get crippled in the quest to make the Islamic Republic of Iraq. A fight you will not join, either."
