White House aide Karl Rove witch-hunts Iraq war opponents
White House aide Karl Rove witch-hunts Iraq war opponents
By Patrick Martin
25 June 2005

In a heavy-handed effort to intimidate opponents of the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, top White House political aide Karl Rove delivered a speech Wednesday in New York City that all but accused critics of these wars of giving aid and comfort to the terrorists. Rove declared that while the Bush administration responded to the 9/11 attacks by waging war, liberals responded by offering “therapy and understanding for our attackers.”

He denounced recent comments by Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois, who compared the methods used at the US detention camp at Guantánamo Bay to those of fascist and Stalinist dictatorships. The previous day, Durbin had made a sniveling recantation on the floor of the Senate.

Noting that Durbin’s original statement had been rebroadcast on Al Jazeera, Rove said it was “certainly putting America’s men and women in uniform in greater danger.” He concluded, “No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.”

These remarks were a calculated political provocation. Rove delivered them to a convention of the Conservative Party of New York, a rump organization of ultra-rightists that generally lends its line on the statewide ballot to Republican candidates. He spoke in Manhattan, traditionally a stronghold of Democratic Party liberalism, only a few miles from the World Trade Center site where nearly 3,000 people died.

3. I have some questions
for Karl Rove ~

'who sent the troops to a war we now know was based on nothing but lies?

And why, if Republicans are always so ready for war, did you, Mr. Rove, and most Republican members of your administration dodge the draft when your country needed you in a war you all supported? Is it that you all just give lip service to war while sending other people's loved to keep you safe?

Please take responsibility for what you have done, and don't try to shift it to others, Mr. Rove. What do you have to say about the revelations in the DSM which prove that this Republican administration sent our troops into harms way based on lies?

What do you have to say the loved ones of those who have lost their lives about the fact the fact that you sent them to the wrong country, and abandoned the war on terror? And where is Osama Bin Laden?'

5. Neither Jenna nor Barbara Bush have enlisted in the military
to fight in the war their daddy wanted so badly.

This White House will never take responsibility for its failures, preferring instead to distract us with constitutional amendments to protect the flag, harm gays, and put the Ten Commandments in every public building and square.

6. Nor have any of those
Republicans in this administration. Does that mean that they didn't want to attack our enemies? Why did Rove not go and fight for his country?

The son of a Democratic politician, state Senator I believe (Laurey?) was killed in Iraq last week. Rove has spit on her and other Democrats who have died for their country with his egregious comments!

And as far as protecting the flag, it is the Constitution that needs protecting. I would support an amendment to stop this administration from ripping it apart!! And let them take names, it's going to be a very, very long list, and growing!
