And they need a poll for that?

Poll finds most don't want draft, yet don't want their kids to join

ASSOCIATED PRESS

June 25, 2005

WASHINGTON – Most Americans don't want to see the return of the military draft, although men, older Americans and Republicans are most likely to say it's a good idea, an AP-Ipsos poll found.

A majority of those polled also wouldn't encourage their own children to enlist – highlighting the problems faced by the military as recruiting is in a slump.

2. They ran this same story in the Atlanta Journal this morning.
I don't want to see a draft again either, but there sure is something to be said about the Brits who make it mandatory to serve the country for a few years.

3. Well I'm an older man, and I .....
don't want to see anybodies kids go to an illegal war. Now if we were talking WW2, which was a necessary war that is different, but not Iraq.

4. I don't want to see children sent to war either....
...but have a sick fascination to watch the train wreck that would occur when POOR fundies realize that their "little blessings" were equally valued as cannon fodder by the regime as OUR children. And to watch the sleeping Dems suddenly awake in real opposition...

5. Surprise!
Most people don't want their kids in a war zone. It's strange with all their commitment to their country how none of the kids of the President or his brother are in the military. If it's a just war, you'd think they'd be encouraging their kids to do their part for their country.

6. Let the rich old men that started this war go fight it!!!
Meet in the battlefield at dawn, fight all day, sleep in a tent at night,,,,, quit killing civilians and destroying cities in this process!!

There were some things that were better in the olden days, this is one of them.

7. I have mixed emotions about a draft...
But I do know one thing. If there were a draft, the growing percentage of people who say the war hasn't been worth the cost would be more inclined to do something about it. Especially the young people of draft age and their parents.

As long as someone else is paying the price, most people don't care enough to find out what's really going on, pressure the media to report accurately, or let their elected officials know how they feel, much less take to the streets in protest.
