Newsweek finally telling it like it is
Bush Lowest poll numbers of any second-term president since Nixon. Use vacation to come up with a crowd pleaser.

Congress Only 19 percent of country thinks you have right priorities. Tackle health care and jobs instead of enriching the rich.

Frist After Schiavo autopsy proves she was vegetative, denies he made TV diagnosis. Transcript shows otherwise.

Jeb Bush Florida governor now wants prosecutors to reopen case to see if Michael left Terri to die in 1990. Give it a rest.

9. Just don't let them near Dr. Frist!
Who KNOWS what he'd do to 'em... and afterward, he could simply say he didn't.
He's such a lyin' animal-torturing sick sadistic twisted perverted creep...
And he's gonna tell US who has and hasn't got a brain?
Whattaworld!!!

5. Wow! That is amazingly plain talking! And calling Frist a liar is just
icing on the cake.

This is just wonderful, and all of it is fully documented. If the Rethugs attack it, they will get more truth where the public can see it.

Trouble is, the crowd-pleaser could be something terrible to scare the public into supporting the administration - say, a planted nuclear device in this country or on a US aircraft carrier (I saw that theory recently). Blamed on Iran, of course.

But hey - this is absolutely a grand Newsweek moment. Let's hope the rest of the corporate media start following suit.

8. The White House Urinated on Newsweek
I had hoped that Newsweek has learnt its lesson and will be a bit more critical now...

13. I have to say that as far as the corporate media goes...
I like Newsweek. I had Newsweek and US News and World Report during the elections. (The US News and World Report subscription was free with my subscription to salon.com) Every week, I compared them. Newsweek's coverage was much better than US News and World Report's coverage.

I'm not saying that they were like the Nation or Mother Jones, but I really feel that they did a good job for being part of the corporate media.

(I know someone's going to slag me for this, but it's really the way I feel.)

(Incidentally, I had a paid subscription to US News and World Report during the 2000 election cycle, and I was so disgusted with it that I cancelled the subscription mid-cycle. I informed them why. I got a free subscription to Newsweek as part of a pledge to NPR, and then I renewed it as a paying subscriber. Salon offered a free subscription to US News and World Report, and I thought that it would be a good way to see if things had changed in the 3+ years since I cancelled it. It hadn't changed at all. I really enjoyed not renewing as a paying subscriber!)

15. I just subscribed to Newsweek
It seems a pretty good supplement to my subscription to The Nation. It has color pictures after all :P Those, plus the internet and cspan make a pretty good mix.

16. Yes, that's the way I feel also.
I don't feel that it has a right-wing agenda the way US News and World Report or Fox News does.

14. This could just be payback for the Whitehouse....
kicking them down, or Newsweek could be waking up and realizing that there is no use in proping up a "paper tiger" such as Bush.
