Attention Fweeper Trolls! Hillary Isn't Running For President In 2008
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 03:24 PM by norml
It's a shame that this "Hillary for President" nonsense hinders support of her as a Senator and as a party leader.

She's never ran for President. She's never formed an exploratory committee to see about running for President. She's never raised money to run for President. She's never entered a Presidential Primary. She's never even said that she'd like to run for the Presidency.

The right wing media has always said "Hillary's running for President" in order to portray her as power mad, and to take away from her accomplishments.

"Can you name one accomplishment of Hillary Clinton in the Senate?" is one of their standard rhetorical questions when it comes to talking about her. They used the same rhetorical question to great effect against John Kerry in the 2004 Election.

Everyone should read this and be prepared to answer that question. http://www.google.com/search?biw=780&hl=en&q=hillary+clinton+accomplishments&btnG=Google+Search

I don't think she will be our Presidential Nominee in 2008. I do think they are going to build their Election 2006 propaganda around the Hillary vs. Rudy Senate Race, in order to make every race a National referendum on her.

It's difficult to be put in the position of supporting her, while at the same time knocking down the "Hillary's Running for President nonsense, but I believe that it's an important thing to do.

1. I wonder if Hillary would
agree to be a stalking horse for the Democratic party? She could announce an intention to run, go through the motions of setting up for a campaign and then withdraw before the first primary, throwing her support to the next strongest candidate. This would have the Repubs, that seem to think the nomination is hers for the asking, gearing up for her defeat and expending their resources to foil someone with no serious intention of running.

3. She won't be running for the Presidency at all in 2008.
I consider any talk of it to be nonsense. Sorry I can't write a more detailed response for you at the moment, but I must now leave for work.

2. The RW has been gearing up for Hillary by laying the ground work...
for a smear campaign. I heard on Mother Jones (AAR) that Klien's book of lies out now, although debunked by many in the media, might be intended to start a whisper campaign against her.

If she does run, there will be a nothing held back from the Reich-wing to damage her.

6. "Stalking Horse"? No, she won't be a Stocking Horse for anybody.
I see no advantage whatsoever in her entering the 2008 Presidential race in any capacity other than to support, fundraise, and campaign for our Nominee.

13. I don't get the "Stocking Horse"
It may be that there's a joke here I'm not getting, but I'm curious.

The dictionary says:

stalk·ing-horse (stôkng-hôrs)

n. 1. Something used to cover one's true purpose; a decoy.
2. A sham candidate put forward to conceal the candidacy of another or to divide the opposition.
3. a. A horse trained to conceal the hunter while stalking. b. A canvas screen made in the figure of a horse, used for similar concealment.

But your tagline does clearly quote Dogbert about definitions not in any dictionary, so maybe you do mean "stocking horse".

Of course, personally, I hope she's no stalking horse for Clark, either. I hope she goes out and honestly campaigns for him, and helps get Clark elected president.

7. But Freeps... listen up -- all is not lost for you...
You've got Newt running for you and I'll bet he'll win your primary big time..

Yep! YOU = Either Newt or Pissy Frissy
US = Either General Clark or someone else just as stellar!

:bounce:

:patriot: ..Is it 2008 yet??

8. I wish I could believe you...
...but there have been too many rumors floating around to the contrary.

I sincerely hope you're right, that Senator Clinton would choose to remain in the U.S. Senate and continue to make a difference as a legislator sent to Congress by the people of New York.

However, until she announces she's not running, I am operating under the assumption that she will run - - and I intend to continue screaming from the rooftops all of the drawbacks and demerits of a Hillary Clinton presidential candidacy.

Hopefully, someone will listen.

9. Her hubby "Big Dog" joked the other night about how Karl would love it..
....if Hillary ran. Those two know what they're doing ;)

I suspect that just prior to the 06 NY Senate election, she'll give then her word that she's staying ~~~ :applause:

10. She will run
Until I hear Hillary Clinton declare that she will serve the full 6 year term in the senate after being elected in 2006, I will assume she is running in 2008. Why run in 2008? This is the first time since 1952 where an incumbent or VP is not in the race -- it is wide open. She is almost assured the dem nomination based on name recognition and fund raising ability. The repub field is weak and will be running on 8 years of AWOL's record. If she does not run in 2008, she may not be able to run again for 8 years if a dem is elected or face an incumbent repuke president in 2012.

If during her next senate campaign she fails to rule out running for prez sometime down the road, book it that she is running in 2008.

14. So WHY run her at all?
For all the reasons you listed...
it is wide open.
The repub field is weak.
running on 8 years of AWOL's record.

Then isn't this exactly the right opportunity to run a REAL Democrat and move this country back to at least the true center, if not the left, instead of yet another appeasement candidate?
